I have 100% this game 7 times on various platforms as of right now, and am now on my 8th playthrough. One of the best games I believe I will ever play.

Movement is floaty yet precise, with just a dash and climb you can achieve almost everything in the game, however the more advanced mechanics you learn later on allow you to traverse every room of the game differently, making each additional playthrough a unique experience as you notice small details in each level which make use of said new mechanics. It simply feels very satisfying to play, which is the main reason I keep coming back.

Music is some of the best in gaming as a whole, the base level soundtracks capture each area beautifully and help you connect with Madeline's journey up the mountain. The B-Sides (mainly collaborative tracks from other artists) are equally as impressive, each with a very different style and mood to differentiate themselves from the level they're representing.

Every level's environments are all aesthetically appealing and all feel like completely different worlds instead of similar areas of the same mountain, which is fitting to the game's story and allows for some wacky level-specific mechanics and obstacles, all of which are enjoyable to use or interact with.

The story is a heartfelt and simple one, not overstaying it's welcome and complimenting the world and gameplay in an entertaining way throughout. If you just want to get on with the platforming however, it's all easily skippable.

If you like 2D platformers, you will almost definitely love this game.
If you don't like 2D platformers, let this be the game to make you at least respect the genre for what it's capable of.
