FAR CRY 5 BASE GAME

Honestly, just a really fun game that you can really just get into without much worry, with a lot of "video game logic" and arcade-like features to make it feel like your a one man army and a lot of extra stuff to make the game world feel alive and unique. That is about how I would sum Far Cry 5 up in one sentence.

But to be a bit more in-depth, here is my reasons on what makes Far Cry such a great game.

The wit and character of everything in the game. Nearly each individual mission, prepper stash and side quest is packed full of wit and character, from the environmental storytelling in the prepper stash missions to the crazy and downright insane NPC side characters. The main story is also pretty decent as well, striking a nice balance between an information overload and no story at all, unlike the COD games where it is 99% gun pew pew and 1% story. The 3 endings are all pretty cool and also pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up at the same time, but they all leave you with a sense of satisfaction. I won't spoil any as I'm sure you can just look them up if your interested enough.

Mmmmmm the mechanics in this game are simply JUICY. From the driving and movement to the shooting and the UI, everything feels smooth and good to handle. The driving is just so nice and makes you NOT want to use fast travel as you can have a fun time off-roading. The drive assist when your aiming and shooting also makes it feel so good and not at all clunky and difficult to do. The movement with parachuting and flying with your wing suit feels smooth and the swinging from grappling hooks and jumping across ledges feels snappy and parkour like. Everything about the shooting feels wonderful as well. The animations for it are well done and the handling feels natural and intuitive, leaving it all up to your skill to perform well.

Oh, and one last thing, but there is a bonus "arcade" game mode, where you can verse people in death matches, explore user created maps, play through custom missions in said user created maps and earn small bonuses to the base game. Personally, I don't find these types of extra game modes very fun, but this one is pretty polished and worth a shot, as well as adding a fair amount of replayability to Far Cry 5.

I could go on and on about what I like about Far Cry 5 and why you should get it, but I think you get the idea. That and I can't be bothered adding more. Of course wait till a 50%+ sale to get it, and it should give you about 50 hours of game play with all the DLC included, but of course if you really enjoy it, it will give you many, many more hours of game play.

LOST ON MARS DLC

Out of all the three DLC's, this one is the one with the most work put into it. It feels as if its taken the best aspects of both the other DLC's and the base game. This continues to have the wit and comedy of Far Cry whilst presenting something new, as there is a new (smaller then the base game) Mars map, several new space weapons, new unique missions and new alien bug type enemies.

The missions all feel juuuust unique enough that they don't end up copying each other and over staying their welcome, as they range from parkour type puzzles, enhanced by the low gravity of Mars, to finding Hurk's Body parts (don't worry, he's mostly fine without them but would prefer them back).

The space guns are a welcome change from traditional fire arms and there is a surprising amount of variety in them, ranging from your traditional laser beam, to a guided plasma orb gun.

The developers have done well to make the endless red desert of Mars into an interesting map with a decent amount of different locations. These include: space stations, satellite towers that you can climb up, alien dens, small rocky canyons, desert (of course) and even an area of the base game map in a dreamlike state.

The alien enemies are pretty standard really, being giant bug like beasts, similar to other sci-fi films. There is about 3 or 4 different types of these bugs each with a different strength and weakness, but other then this, there isn't much else to say here.

Verdict: Probably the most worthwhile DLC out of all three, and is a nice change from the base game of Far Cry 5. Get this one while one sale.

DEAD LIVING ZOMBIES DLC

Probably my favourite DLC of all three, this DLC involves 7 "movie pitches" which are essentially 7 scenarios you run through killing zombies, with much of it being scripted events, while "Guy Marvel" an overenthusiastic movie director wanna-be, pitches the idea of this to famous directors.

These movie pitches take only about 15-30 minutes, but each feel different from each other. The scripting works in sync with your game play and feels really smooth. Not only this, but if you stray from the intended path and do a bit of exploration, you will often be rewarded with a better weapon and special dialogue, making it feel like you have found a cool little secret.

Also, after you complete each movie pitch, you will unlock the score attack mode, where you have to try and get as high of a score has possible, if that interests you. You can also unlock bonus weapons for the base game as well.

Verdict: if you enjoy bite sized missions that is full of the wit and comedy of Far Cry 5, definitely get this one.

HOURS OF DARKNESS DLC

This is my least favourite DLC of all three, as it does use much of the same mechanics as the base game, but without a lot of the wit, character and atmosphere of the base game. The point of this DLC is that it is set in the Vietnam war and you're playing as an American helicopter gunner. The helicopter that you were in gets shot down and you have to try and make it to an evacuation point across the map from you. Whilst you do this, you can do extra (optional) tasks like collect lighters from shot down fighter pilots, rescue P.O.W's, destroy propaganda speakers, destroy AA guns and save your 3 other crew members.

Here lies the the problem with this. These all feel the same. Each P.O.W rescue mission feels like a repeat of one outpost mission, each lighter and propaganda speaker feels like the same Prepper stash mission and to top it all off, there really is no point to doing this extra stuff as you don't unlock anything new, nor do you get a achievement for doing 100%.

Verdict: It's fine if your looking for more far cry to play, otherwise, don't bother as it doesn't add much new stuff. Get it on sale if you still want to get it.
