For a point of reference, this was the first AC game I played in depth at all. My review of the game will be as an RPG game as opposed to scrutinizing how it fits into the AC collection.

Graphics - excellent detail and scenery. Under and on water areas are done very well and landscapes are some of the most realistic looking I've seen. Character details are good also.

Voice acting - I would say this is very well done. Some improvements could be made in dramatic situations acting wise, but generally quite good.

Gameplay - this is definitely a strength of this game. Movement feels fluid and consistent on land, on a horse, commanding a ship and swimming. I never felt that any one area was weaker than another. They are all well executed, including combat options.

Upgrades - the beginning of the game starts off with very basic moves but once you start getting some special skills, it makes the game more fun via enhancing all aspects of combat. There is a vast array of upgrades for weapons, armor, special skills and for your ship. All have a noticeable impact on gameplay proportionate to the degree of upgrading.

Story - There are numerous side stories via NPCs which are cleverly written. Some are fetch quests as you'd expect with an extensive game with a plethora of quests. Some are ingenious and use mythological themes to play out a story (ie - Supideo). The main storyline is good, more or less what someone would expect in a game of this scope. Not too edgy, but not too vanilla either.

Content - There is a ton of content. It took me about 250 hrs to complete the main quests, several (but not all locations discovered) and all the DLC. The main game alone for me was around 200 hrs. There is also a story creator mode where players can construct their own quests. Also, the Discovery Tour was released which was also done for Origins, but this iteration was reportedly improved in camera focus so the narration better synced with the visuals.

Replayability - The option to play as Alexios or Kassandra and potentially get different reactions from NPCs based on your character and be able to make different choices while also taking advantage of all your established skills and inventory via a new game + mode offers a great opportunity to keep playing. The story creator mode add nearly endless quests to try made by other players.

What would make this game even better? Some even more compelling stories in the quest lines, although this would be a challenge as this game is based on a specific era and characters. A better variety of how the NPCs look would have added more immersion (some were identical copies).

Overall, there is not much to complain about with this game, but much to appreciate. If I didn't have a massive backlog, I would be up for playing it again soon. As an action RPG fan, I would say this is my current favorite game, just slightly edging out Witcher 3. If Witcher 4 had ever come out, it may have eclipsed Odyssey.
