The story mode is actually pretty good

It is cool, looks nice, smooth, fitting music, feels like I die way easier sometimes than others, there is just very little originality. It is forever going to be compared to ULTRAKILL, DOOM, DUSK, GhostRunner, etc. Because that is exactly what this is. From the enemies, to the visuals, to the weapons and their abilities, it is just like ULTRAKILL and DOOM. and the name says it too, Overkill - ULTRAKILL, come on. I am only around an hour in, so maybe there is some originality coming. It looks nice, I can run it full settings on a 1060 3GB so thats impressive. There are quite a few bugs. Only way to start a new game is to load the game, hold Shift - N - S - F then exit. Very unbalanced on higher difficulty, it is following the early access release plan. "Release now, fix later" which is disappointing, but oh well.

Overall it takes a lot of (a bit too much) "inspiration" from other games that came before it and have done very well. It is fairly priced, quite buggy, but there is fun to be had, I just get picky about originality.

But this game is really neat, a bunch of unique weapons, it looks great, feels smooth and quick. Will say, the trailers / store page gif things are very slightly misleading, you will not have those crazy fast runs wielding crazy weapons and flying all over the place for a little while. Currently I am in these caves, dark and gloomy, a bit slow paced, but it is good at teaching the game. So it is misleading if you are wanting that experience right off the bat.

I am also unfortunately not the biggest fan of the mini-game skill tree. It is super unique and I love the idea, but it is just not for me, however, I can see a lot of people liking it, so to each their own. Can not deny that it is a super cool idea, I love it on paper, just not in practice.

Really unique game which says a lot because this retro boomer shooter with modern flair genre has started to become a bit overdone. But this one stands out and has clear focus and intentions. Nothing is just thrown in there for the sake of it. The price is not bad, an ideal price (other than free) would be 15$ but you get a lot for your moneys worth since there is a lot of replayability.

TL;DR Standout game in an overdone genre, unique mechanics, great visuals, good music, active developer, overall a well crafted game with a lot of intent.

Fun, but its a little sketchy, game does not close, it is not in task manager, or in task manager details, only way to quit it is to completely exit steam. Ran for about 8 hours after I closed it.

Online is nearly unplayable in my experience, there is a solid 1-2 second delay between inputs, and there is no delay for hosts, so..
Gameplay is unique, I really like the dodging system, nothing more satisfying than a 1-1-2 dodge uppercut.

A lot of the moves are the same, and there is no reason to not pick dumpster, super op. But the characters are there I guess.

The art style is really ugly, characters are super ugly, but the fighting is fun so it is up to what you value most. Also there are weird grammatical errors and horrible writing all over. "Okay guys we are going to beat you guys up" ..really?

TL;DR ugly visually, good gameplay, responsive, online is nearly unplayable, a lot of recycled moves. Careless writing / revision.

Don't get this if you are not good with computers, you basically have to code the entire game and download external files and ♥♥♥♥ just for a 50% chance at it working

I previously reviewed this game negatively, and I do still think the protagonist is an edgy pathetic degenerate. But this game is kinda fun, it has a nice atmosphere. However, PLAY WITH MODS. Base game is pretty bad.

The community for this game is pretty atrocious, but as long as you don't engage with the schizophrenic druggies in the community, the game is an enjoyable experience.

TL;DR Game pretty good, community not pretty good. Two words to describe this game...

Guilty Pleasure

I have around 40 hours on Epic, bought it here because I hate Epic.

Game is good, really hard, cult classic. While the whole "No 2 runs are exactly the same" is technically true, it falls into the trap that many other games fall into, it feels the same. I dont know if I need to unlock more weapons, but my first two weapons are without fail, the grenade launcher and wrench/screwdriver. The game is very fast paced, any pc can run it.

some weird furry ♥♥♥♥, only calls the female characters "squirt" and the difficulty can be described as the developer studio name.

I dont know what 80% of these reviews are about, just focusing on the wrong things. "Without X the game loses all appeal" ...ok that is why it is in the game. If call of duty removed guns, it would lose all appeal, dumb argument.
Anyway, the game feels good, it is very satisfying to dodge bullets, do a 180 while falling and take out a bunch of enemy ships pushing the combo score higher. The music is great, very understated feature is that the music changes with what parts you use. Some people misread the game, yes it is simple, it is SUPPOSED to be simple. It is an arcade game.

The controls are simple, the gameplay feels great and the music is a nice bonus. Sure, you probably won't be pouring 20+ hours into this unless you want to, but for the price it is not bad at all, and it is very entertaining.

TL;DR Feels great, nice adaptive music, simple controls, easy to learn, very satisfying.
