.99 cents is an insult. i would pay 9.99 for this

i wish jungle strike had been this good. i wish nuclear strike had been this intense. holy crap i have no idea where to begin

the title screen explodes into synths that would make kenny loggins weep. the menu is clean and simple and quickly gets you to exactly what you want, all while that music keeps it bumpin. training gets you comfortably and confidently in the air. instant action like raiding enemy bases or hopping from island to island defending yours. free flight that lets you customize the engagement. a campaign to test how many days you can last completing random objectives. a really informative weapons menu that i could not even pay attention to cuz of that sick music

everything feels right. holding the space bar gives you complete control over the altitude of your craft. tapping the chopper down to a safe landing is really satisfying, and really exciting when barreling in with zero fuel and the alarm screaming your imminent crash. rescuing hostages without landing on them and bringing them back to base grants you repairs. taking down foes gains money which is spent at HQ to rearm or reconfigure your loadout. these missions are amazingly deep and involved. it's advantageous to take your time and carve out your objectives by removing obstacles in a smart and strategic way. if a bunch of choppers are swarming an area, lead them away and take them out far from the AA guns on the ground. if your air to air missles arent as useful now, land and strap on some torpedoes to take out battleships or some bombs to drop on factories and fuel dumps

the aim assist is perfect. theres no struggling with getting your bullets or missiles to land where you want. spatial awareness is on point. nothing pops out of nowhere and every enemy can be assessed and prepared for with an adjustable radar showing exactly where everything is. hitting enter brings up your current goals and the whole map. stages wrap around themselves so getting lost is impossible and it keeps all the action contained and accessible. the 90 degree rotation of the view is magnificent

the weight of the choppers, the way they swing and dip and pull themselves back up feels amazing. they control like dreams. drifting sideways dodging homing missiles while laying into infantry with your cannon and spitting out rockets at apcs then snapping to guided missiles to down a heli happens flawlessly in a matter of seconds

and f me, the transport chopper is so freakin cool. two door gunners firing on their own, destroying everything they see, while i can concentrate on dropping off 6 commandos to infiltrate a base or rescue a group of hostages that would take the other choppers two or three trips. unreal

and the chaff. i mean, come on. wow. it feels like a movie

Hornet Virus is a classic. a gem worth trudging through steams catalog of trash for hours and hours to find. it's why ill spend even more hours ignoring thousands of hentai shooters and diablo clones. there has to be more games like Steel Alcimus II out there. thanks for the faith

mission complete
