This Be We Made

Here is your opportunity to REALLY snoop around!

I enjoyed this quite a lot,
You play as a hotel maid that is a very curious person; she snoops through guest’s belongings.
In addition to your hotel cleaning duties you will solve a murder.
There are several characters you interact with and there’s multiple story lines which kept it interesting.
Character movement is quick, no lagging.
There’s a great journal to keep track of the many clues you discover, and if you forget what you are doing you can click the “Q” and be reminded.
Bonus for having a good save system. I don’t know how many there are, but I used over a dozen.
Having the manual save is convenient if you want to see the other endings without replaying everything.
My daughter and I played this together. We had 7.7 hours, but she used a walk-through when she played so if you read everything and explore everywhere I would guess around ten hours playtime.

The Case of the Golden Idol

Welcome to the Cloudsley family. They are part of the criminal underworld belonging to a secret society.

Pure logic, this game operates on pure logic. Everything you need to solve the whodunit and why they did it in each of the eleven chapters is there, but you will need to have an eye for detail and need to persevere a bit.

Each chapter builds on itself, gradually increasing in difficulty in:
The number of items you obtain.
The number of words that are highlighted.
The number of people involved.

You can look back in solved chapters to identify people if you need a reminder. If you don’t want to do that take pictures of the panels after you solve them.

Hints on playing the game:

There are directions for gameplay in the game that include how to access a hint.

The mouse wheel scrolls larger so you can zoom in.

It does support controllers.

You drag and drop the words, a right click removes them. You might need another instance of a name or item, just drag it from the panels you have it on. If you can't drag from one panel without it disappearing try another.

If you prefer, you can toggle between the Thinking and Exploring panels by tapping the spacebar.

I played with highlights turned on, as the game suggested. It will be a pixel hunt for some items if you do not.

Click all red or underlined words

Focus on characters and how they fit in.
Are they a friend or foe?
Are they an employee?

Identify all the people who are in the scenes with their first and last names.
Pay attention to what is being said and what the characters look like in that moment. Are they afraid, in pain, bleeding?
Sometimes the process of elimination worked well for me. If you have two or fewer errors the text will be yellow and the panel heading will say that as well.

The game will try to trick you as you go along by adding evidence or characters that have no bearing on the current chapter.
Thumbs up for me, good luck to you all!

WhateverLand!
When I don't like a game I backed, I keep quiet about them.
I do like this one so will give you a quick breakdown of what I’ve seen thus far.

In this Point-n-Click game you awaken in a Witch’s domain. Your goal is to get out of it. You have a ghostly sidekick that will help you. At least we think they will…

  • Beautiful hand drawn graphics
  • Voice-overs are A++
  • A few manual save slots
  • Great music

The journal is fabulous. You must collect seven pieces of information from seven different people. Possibly eight if you include the witch? They each have a page to track your progress and a flowchart.

Choices matter in this game so decide the kind of character you want to be. I selected a nice person but then I did a couple of not-nice things that I’m sure will bite me in the butt later. 😊

The puzzles I’ve done so far were good and game appropriate, very detail oriented – that’s a hint, pay attention to detail early on.

I exited out of the close-up view in a puzzle early on and lost my progress on that puzzle, so I didn’t exit out early again.

Collect the balls of yarn you see laying around to skip the action puzzles.

    Controls/Options:
There is an autosave and two manual save slots available, there is a map, a journal, you can double click to walk fast, click the spacebar to show hot-spots. To advance text quickly you click the arrow in the dialogue box.

    That’s it for now!

Nine Noir Lives!
I’m having a lot of fun with this. Many of you know that I usually review AFTER I complete a game, but this is canning season and I am busy!

So, with no further ado, my first impression.

This is a comedic Point-n-Click game.
You are a private investigator that is called in to assist in a murder inquiry
The “comedic” elements are not overdone and run into the ground. There’s some “cutesy” to it, but not over the top. All the characters have their own bit of quirkiness to them.

It has very vibrant graphics that are crisp and clean. The graphic artist was brilliant, they show you a noir silhouette of the other characters as you meet them; it creates a great contrast.

I’m all about story and this is a thumbs up for me.

The puzzles do make sense and I’ve not run into any lunar-logic ones.

Controls/Options:
You can select two modes of play:
1-Normal (for those that enjoy a challenge). Your notebook will only contain case notes.
2-Story. This has easier puzzles, and your notebook contains slight hints. There is also a tutorial in this mode.

You can toggle between the two modes at any time.
There is a map you can use to quickly go to other locations, there are also in-game short-cuts from one area of play to another.
There is an auto-save and nine manual save slots.
I’ve had no problems with it at all and nine will be more than enough for me.
Double click to advance text quickly
Space-bar for hot-spots
We have a new option in this game; you can lick items. Come on, you are a cat, of course you should be able to lick items!

Oh! Edited because I forgot to mention how great the voice acting and animations are!

Dam#$$$ Auto insert. Had to fix the title

Well done devs!

Justin Wack and the Big Time Hack!

This is a fun Point-n-Click jaunt through time 😊

What happens when the past "you" breaks through a time traveling portal?
You switch places of course! To prevent things like this from happening a robot designed to eliminate you is on your trail and you’ll have all kinds of things that need sorted to get everyone back where they belong.

You toggle between playing Justin in the present and in the past; sometimes the past must help the present, sometimes it is in reverse.

I’ve only played a couple of hours but have been so excited for this game I thought I’d pop out a quick “first impressions”.

It’s got really lovely, artwork, animation, everything we expect in a good point and click.

This game reminds me of Gibbous.

I see friends playing that have 10 plus hours in it so I'd say it has a nice play length.

With Gamescom I would hate to see this get buried.

Controls/Options:
There is an auto-save and a manual save; it will auto-save when you exit and during the game.
There is a built-in hint system that’s not a full spoiler.
Double click to advance text quickly
Space-bar for hot-spots
The things we are accustomed to in Point-n-Clicks in other words.

Well done devs!

Edited to add that I'm five hours in and still enjoying it. There are six save slots, quite adequate because of the auto save on exit and in-game auto-saves; the game is quite stable so this works fine for me.

Prose and Codes

This is an alphabet cipher game. 😊

Something different and done so well!
Explore the wonderful world of books through deceptively simple substitution ciphers. 10% of every purchase benefits Project Gutenberg, an online library of over 60,000 free eBooks.

This game is so addicting. If you have five minutes or five hours, it will keep you satisfied. You can even read the entire book that the cipher comes from if you like.

You click the letters on the cipher, and all are filled in for you. If you change your mind just select a letter and use the delete key to clear them all or use the reset button provided to clear all entries. It is that easy.

Wordle fans will love it!

Each cipher will provide at least one letter for you to get you started, except for "Hard" mode.

Controls/Options:
There is an auto-save that places you exactly back where you were when you exited.
You can select Easy, Medium, Hard, and Progressive for the cipher difficulty.
There are three profiles so others can play too.

Well done devs!

Edited to add what was in the update on Aug 12th:

Decode quotes from some of history's most influential thinkers, ranging all the way from ancient wisdom to modern philosophy. This is our first non-fiction category, and we hope you enjoy!

In addition to the new ciphers, we've added a few requested features to make your solving experience even smoother. On the cipher screen, you'll now find an UNDO button (you can also use CTRL+Z), and we've added the ability to right click on a letter to erase it. There are also minor fixes for typography spacing and typos.

Syberia: The World Before

Kate is back in this Point and Click Adventure

  • Beautiful artwork and cinematography.
  • Story.
  • Music
  • Seems well optimized thus far

Kate is back, the story is back!

Update: I am five hours in, looking at everything slowly and savoring the beauty of it.
Thus far it seems like 25 percent of it is observation and cinematography, very few puzzles thus far and they have been quite easy. I miss that amazing blouse she hid everything in!

You probably played the demo and have seen and heard how beautiful the game is.

There are two different timelines going on so it may take a moment to figure out what you are doing; stick with it, after the first bits it really does feel like a Syberia game.

I have not run into any head-banging puzzles, but hey, its early days. :-)

It does contain minor UI elements that I’m not fond of: Click and drag, click, and rotate; it is made with Unity. You’ve seen that before.

I would much rather point and click that handle to open it, not rotate it too. That always feels like busy work to me.

    Other/Options:
There is an auto-save system with well-placed checkpoints (thus far). There are second and third profile slots available.

If you have not played the other games in the series, there is a “previously” button you can click to see some of our favorite moments from the series or refamiliarize yourself.

There is a tutorial, and hints are available.

You have a Journal that states your objective, holds your inventory, documents, and a diary.

    Think that’s it for now!

Dexter Stardust

An Indie, Episodic Point and Click😊

  • Great artwork and animation.
  • Good story.
  • Family friendly
  • Polished

I have enjoyed my time in Dexter Stardust, and what a fair price!

Dexter pays homage to traditional Point n Clicks with a bit of a Broken Sword vibe to it.
I enjoyed the humor; it does not hit the “too cute” or trying too hard spot for me.

Dexter is episodic, there are four here. The first is a demo lasting about 15 minutes; it gives you a good preview of the game-play. The other chapters vary in length, game-play for me (no speed running here) is seven to eight hours. $7.99 USD is a great little deal!

The story is good, puzzles are well spaced and fair to the player. Not too easy, not too had; Dexter is an enjoyable game.

I’m on chapter four, I’m told this will end on a bit of a cliff-hanger; I don’t really care, it’s been fun.

The next chapter will include platforming. The dev tells me it will be of the “Mario Brothers” difficulty.

    Controls/Options:
There is an auto-save with very well-placed checkpoints, in addition to four save slots.

Access your inventory by clicking a red button, there is a checklist there to remind you of your objective.
Director commentary is available and quite interesting.

The menu is a little odd, you access “new game” and then select the chapter you are on. You can replay chapters and access any chapter you like.

Ghost on the Shore
Ghost on the Shore is Waking Sim with a deep narrative😊

  • Vibrant artwork
  • Intriguing story.
  • Very polished.
  • Music is complimentary, not distracting.
  • Voice-overs!

I saw an “adventure tag” on the store page, but have seen no puzzles yet; I am 2.2 hours in. Don’t buy it expecting a traditional Adventure game. Buy it for the beautiful narrative that it is.

The “Like Charlie” studio is a team of 8 storytelling enthusiasts, this team also brought us “Marie’s Room” another game I quite enjoyed.

You, Riley, are shipwrecked on an island. Your only companion is a ghost named Josh that has attached themselves to you.

Along the way you explore abandoned villages and put their story together. Why is the once thriving island uninhabited? Dare you trust your ghost friend Josh?

Your choices along the way will determine your fate.

    Controls/Options:

WASD. This is fully supported playing with a controller or mouse. I tested both, they worked as they should.
There is an auto-save with very well-placed checkpoints. You do not have to worry about backtracking because of a lack of a manual save.

You have a journal that contains the sketches, letters, and cassette tapes you find along the way.
You can turn on-invert X, invert Y, volume controls.
I’ve seen nothing that was timed or involved quick dexterity-based actions.

The game is eye-candy, it is beautiful. I am in no hurry and am looking at everything a few times and enjoying my island get-away.

The Corridor

Trust me, set your Steam status to invisible; your friends will thank me later😊

  • It has a corridor.
  • There is usually a button.
  • Think you need more? Maybe not.

    Controls/Options:
Let your imagination run wild and see if you can outsmart the button; I have not - yet, but I have had a lot of fun trying to figure out how.

There is no way to review this without spoilers, so I won’t try.

    Other
    WASD controls
    DSAW controls
    SAWD controls
    ASWD controls

Getting the picture? I purchased for $1.99, full price; the historical low I saw was $.89; it was worth the $1.99 to me.
