I'd recommend playing through it twice; the first to just experience the story, and then a second time to appreciate and realize more about the story. Don't worry; the game is short. Altogether, I spent about 6 hours for two playthroughs.

I myself am not great at puzzles that require this kind of thinking, but I got through about 60% of the game without having to look up a walkthrough, and then on the second playthrough, I was able to do all but three of the puzzles without a guide.
