Early Access Review
If you’re the type of gamer that’s usually surrounded by survival and zombie games, look no further. Even though this game is still in Alpha and has been for a very long time, it has all the elements a Zombie, Survival and Crafting game should have. From looting abandoned towns, chopping trees, digging underground tunnels to building bases, defenses and growing crops. There are no limits to the type of base you can build but all is governed by logical weight and stability.

PROS AND PERKS OF THIS GAME

Day and Night Cycle
During the day zombies usually walk but don’t get too comfortable, they can very much surprise you, some crawl, some fall through broken ceilings, some hide in wardrobes and even bathtubs, they can come from everywhere. This is where you’ll do what ever it takes to loot as many places as you can, this will give you the materials and accessories you need to craft tools, weapons and base defenses you need to survive during the night. At night however, zombies run and they run fast. It’s in your best interest to stay close or inside your base and take that time to reinforce its defenses or craft the things your need for the next day of looting.

Digging / Terrain Manipulation
There are many games that are currently trying this system, however only a handful is doing it currently. 7 Days to Die has pretty much mastered it. It’s amazing how you can dig anywhere you want and very deep as well. You can build a bunker 50 meters underground or even plan an online raid against your enemies by digging your way in from under their base or simply build a trench with traps for zombies to fall into. Digging is also important for gathering resources such as stone, coal, iron, sulfur and at times rare silver and diamond.

Craftable Transportation
Many survival games offer the ability to craft and explore. Only 7 Days to Die allows you to craft means of transportation. At first, you’re able to craft a simple bicycle, yes, it’s slow but much better than having to walk or run everywhere! As you progress through the game and gather the correct resources, you’ll be able to build a minibike, motorcycle, 4x4 SUV and even a Gyrocopter allowing you to fly your way around the world.

Base Building and Upgrading
If you think Minecraft is good, then you should really try 7 Days to Die. The sky is the limit! – Literally. Your base can be of any shape and/or size, but what truly matters is how well you defend it. There are many layers to a base, such as Wood, Reinforced Wood, Stone, Concrete, Reinforced Concrete and finally Steel and Reinforced Steel. The more you upgrade the stronger your walls and defences are. I usually start with a small base but highly reinforced and I expand as the game progresses. There are also the factors of weight and stability. Building a shape that overhangs too far can and will collapse. Building a base on top of a weak foundation can also result in a total collapse.

Electrical System
Let there be light! Throw away the torch and turn on the light switch! 7 Days to Die has come up with a smart electrical system that allows you to build lights, switches, relays with timers, speaker alarms, electrical traps, sensors for doors and defense turrets and more! I spend hours just playing around with all the possibilities the electrical system has to offer. A simple example; plug your power source such as the battery bank or fuel generator to a camera or pressure plate then from that to a trap such as an auto turret, dart trap or even a spinning blade trap. Watch what happens when zombies come across the camera or pressure plate. So exciting! Another way to use electricity is for automation, perhaps you’re getting close to your base in your 4X4 SUV and you’re too lazy to get out and open the garage door. No worries, use a camera sensor which detects your movement and opens the garage door automatically.

There are many more PROS and PERKS of this game such as growing, harvesting and trading, but I’ll leave that up to you to explore.

CONS
The only cons of this game are the minor bugs. However, since this game is still in ALPHA there are plenty of things the development team is still working to fix and upgrade. I’m constantly checking out their forums and I can say that they are highly responsive and constantly working on fixing issues.

In conclusion 7 Days to Die is by far the best Zombie Survival / Crafting game there is!
