A good game. You can play with either alternative or original/tank controls, respectively. The Original has more rigid movement where "W" being forward and "S" is backwards while "A" turns left and "D" right. Alternative controls being up-to-date with modern games and allowing more fluid-movement where "S" and "W" can be either forward or backwards and vice versa depending on the camera angle or direction faced.

Tank controls are a more archaic control system with the term deriving from the steering systems of old tanks or other continuous track vehicles such as Caterpillar's D9T Dozer, which allowed more restricted movement, hence the term: "tank controls".

Tank controls were common in games from the 1980s-90s (Vindicators 1988). The original Resident Evil did not feature "alternative controls" and was designed with the older (tank) controls in mind. Alternative controls are arguably considered less difficult to utilize than tank controls because of its fluidity in movement. Although, the issue with alternative arises from the design-choice of the fixed camera angles when turning certain corners of the mansion which may leave the user disoriented. This issue is nonexistent with the original controls attributed to the reason that "W" is the only key that allows one to go forward. The game is playable with both controls and it is possible for one to learn to play with both.
