It's basically everything I look for in a game; an engine of stories, not a way to move one along.

I really wish I could recommend this.
Lil Guardsman suffers from what I can only interpret as a lack of identity. It explicitly references Monkey Island and Papers Please - but the comedy often fell flat for me, puzzles felt lackluster at best... and obtuse or pointless at worst. On the other hand, the decisions felt weightless, and I didn't really care about any outcome from them, and the political commentary felt ham-fisted most of the time while the main character still made uncontrollable in-universe defacto racist remarks.

By the end of my experience, I was just waiting for it to be over with. It's a strong premise with a good opening to be honest, but it never goes anywhere with it and the comedy couldn't figure out whether it was for kids or adults, and was inconsistent as a result.

It also doesn't help my review that I had a few crashes, and the game's UI was extremely lacking at times.

As an aspiring game designer I want to give kudos for the things that went right, namely the art, premise, and *some* chunks of the writing, but as a player I can't look past the flaws if I'm writing an honest review.

I still see it when I close my eyes.

I've done over a hundred and fifty runs and only beaten the game once.

Stop reading the steam reviews and play this masterpiece.
Seriously, best $20 I've spent in a long time.

Totally worth playing.
Go in blind and you'll have a great time.
Though, just so you know, you can click on the buttons on the side of the radio. (I found it wasn't totally clear)

This game is *really* good.

My only piece of feedback would be to add an infinite mode, possibly with co-op?
Currently I don't really feel much pull to come back to the game having beaten it and largely experienced the story.

edit: came back to try new game plus after a few months away, new game plus seems to not allow you to continue from where you leave off if you select "exit".

Worth the price of admission (free)
Sound design is a bit lacking, and the movement and ai leave a bit to be desired, but it's fun.

Incredibly fun movement shooter with one of the best mechanical executions of time travel I've seen. I highly recommend to anybody who likes warframe and wants to permanently feel like that recent gauss prime ad.
