What the heck happened to this game? This game has changed so much when I last played 2 years ago. Back when I played this game, people didn't do Vote for Role and despised it, Jailors didn't out themselves day 1, and Town Investigative roles didn't give out information everyday, but now, every game I play in ranked or ranked practice, people do this stuff now.

People didn't do voting for role because that would out the most important town roles, I understand that people do it in the end of the game, but there's no reason to do in on day 2 because all that does is give away important town members, and what's also bad, since there is a Witch in every single ranked and ranked practice game, if a Vigilante gets put on trial, then the chances are Witch is gonna use the Vigilante to their advantage or the Vigilante gets hung, sometimes even when they say they are just Town Killing. Though even if the chances of them are being Veteran, it is a 50/50 chance that the guy is a Vigilante or Veteran, and when you play TOS you have to take risks in order to win.

Jailors didn't out themselves day 1 because the Mafia can use that to their advantage. This includes;
1.) Witch/Consort can make the Jailor not do his role.
2.) Ambusher can visit Jailor in order to kill the TP.
3.) In late game, the Jailor will get lynched if Mafia has majority.
4.) If the TP is dead, Jailor is most likely to get targeted by Mafia.

And probably the most annoying part of this, is that the Town will blindly believe you even when you claim Jailor and you're not the Jailor. I've had games where townies have gotten lynched just because the Jailor claim said to guilty that person. I had Mafia games where a person claimed Jailor when Jailor got killed and cleaned night 1, and Town blindly believed it and innocent people got lynched, resulting in Mafia winning the game.

Don't get the wrong idea, I still like playing this game and will continue playing it. And I did like how they got rid of the Random Neutral Evil and Neutral Killing roles in Ranked Practice and Ranked, often because the NK had a really low chance of winning, considering both the Town and the Mafia both want the NK dead, and or the NK just left the game right away. But how has Town of Salem come to this? Why did people do a 180 and change the way they play the game in the span of about 2 years? Anyone know how this has happened?

I totally get where you are coming from. I understand that these strategies have some advantages to them, however, vfr gives more advantages to mafia. Because Mafia know who each other are, vfr means they have a better understanding of who is town and who is not, if they know what town roles people are, they mafia will have an easier time on who to kill. If people don't claim that often, mafia would have a more difficult time on choosing who to kill as they don't see who are a big threat to them.

And the thing is, about I'd say 30% of the time, the people who claim Jailor day 1 aren't even Jailor, and the majority of people who claim Jailor day 1 to me are mostly townies. Often the real Jailor doesn't do anything about them and makes the problem worse. That is what pisses me off the most about this change, it just ruins the fun I have in this game and it's just so annoying.

Also, just for the record, they made it so that Ambusher and Hypnotist can be in non coven game modes now.

The d1 jailor claim meta does a similar thing. It forces all evils to commit to a claim, and makes it easier to just burn through the list of town confirming who isnt, or probably isnt evil, which leads to actual evils being revealed. 90% sure Ambusher is coven exclusive, but maybe im crazy. Regardless, it doesnt justify not doing it(even vs blackmailer its fine). Who cares if the Doc dies, that Ambusher who was forced to claim tp D2 now is easier to find. Things like the lookout that punish killing the jailor, or the transporter, or even just rolling a second town protective exist. Something people forget is town members dying IS information too. Also its wrong to say Jailor cant do his job because of rbers, jailing is still incredible powerful even without the killing, and he makes up for it by greatly increasing lynching accuracy.

anyway, cheers! at the end of the day TOS is a race for information, and these strategies speed that up.

(mite be a little silly to reply to a thread this late but here we go) its completely fair to use the vfr/d1 jailor claims as a reason for giving the game a negative review (I honestly agree), its part of the reason the game feels bad, the game is heavily town sided and always has been.

but one thing I want to clear up is its pure miss-understanding to think these are dumb strategies (atleast not entirely)

VFR is kind of silly because some people will do it entirely randomly, rather then voting up people who have been suspicious, regardless of whichever its still a net positive. What this does is force evils to claim a role, and be committed to it. it **FORCES** them to fight with other real town members claiming the spot. As you start getting a good feel for who is actually town(and people who claimed x role look worse because of someone dying), it makes hunting them down easier as you fill the role list. again, I completely get how this isnt fun to play into.
