MH Rise is about killing and getting better at killing monsters. The combat is very varied and you can spend hundreds of hours on weapons and still find new tricks. Some mechanics like wyvern riding are optional, but encouraged and while I did dislike it at first, I learned to do funny things with it.
I highly recommend this game if you don't dislike solo hunts, as you won't find lobbies or helpers when going through the base game.
