Early Access Review
This is my perfect chill game. No pressure from multiplayer, no stakes past the current match, no tracked stats to worry about. If you do badly in a match cause you were focused on something else, doesn't matter, you didn't disappoint any other players on your team, just restart the match and continue the fun.
I love this game but before you purchase you should be aware, the official development, while still ongoing, with some great stuff added over the years, is now quite slow. But mods are where the true magic is at with Ravenfield. Don't be scared by them! This is about the easiest modding experience you will find anywhere, you just subscribe to mods through the Steam Workshop and it just works. (rarely there might be small annoying bugs inside a mod, but you can easily just unsubscribe from it if don't like it)
The base game is fun but mods push the replay potential way up. Don't think the game is getting enough new weapons? Just click a button and you have literally 100 new guns to play with.
I quite like the more vanilla feel, if you do too and want to just improve the weapons already in the game download the Arsenal Overhaul mod. Boom, almost every weapon in the game replaced with way, WAY higher quality versions.
If you like FPS games but you want a relaxing time and like tons of free new content to try constantly, buy this game.
If you like to listen to music/albums while you play, turn the game's sound effects volume all the way down and you have the absolutely perfect game to enjoy music with. You get to a song that you want to really focus on, no worries! Just pause the game and listen, Ravenfield will be there waiting for you when you get back.
I love this game, it really is my perfect chill game.
PS. If you ever see this, thank you Steelraven (Ravenfield's creator) for this wonderful game, been here since the Alpha releases way back in the day, the game has come a long way since then. I wish you the very best with Ravenfield and your future projects.

What a wild ride, I definitely recommend this, if you enjoy a thought provoking story it is truly excellent. If you are thinking of playing this game DO NOT watch gameplay of it beforehand or you may spoil it for yourself, I sure was glad I didn't! There are a few frustrating control problems since it is an older game but they did not inhibit my enjoyment of the game hardly at all. The gameplay works with the story excellently, making you feel like you are playing a movie while still having full control. If you grew up on Call of Duty and want to see a different side to war play this game.

I really tried to give this game a shot but I honestly would not recommend this. This is coming from someone who has never reviewed a game before on Steam. I purchased it because of some of the excellent retrospectives for this game, which talk of the great immersion and the unique features such as the weapon jamming system. But be warned, this game has not aged well on PC. There may be mods and changes you can make to the game to make it run better if you want to put in the time, but the vanilla game is very messy, from NPCs bouncing up and down at high framerates to the terrible mouse movement in the menus to the bug when you alt-tab that requires you to change the settings file in Notepad to fix it the issues really pile up.
Aside from the bugs there are some really frustrating design choices:

1. Everyone talks so fast it is often unintelligible without subtitles turned on, really this is not a joke you have been warned.
2. While you are travelling on the roads you get attacked by enemies so frequently it is ridiculous and frustrating.
3. This is maybe the worst driving controls I have ever experienced, it feels like you are driving a hovercraft or something.
4. While I cannot pin point what it is and I am pretty confident that it can be remedied with some settings file edits the mouse movement feels really odd and can be actually difficult to aim with.

I am not sure about this but I think some of these issues have to do with the game being ported from console.
As for immersion, I honestly did not find it very immersive because of the ridiculous constant barrage of enemies, the very repetitive world, and the fact that I never understood beyond the very surface level what was even happening in the story.
From what I saw, the main villain is pretty interesting but in all my time of playing the game I only interacted with him for about 30 seconds.
Just be aware before you pick this up that even with all the cool attention to detail that this game has to offer actually playing it will probably be a rough experience.
