Nice music but too short and requires dlc to play past 3 levels. Levels aren't really interesting or challenging and do not go with the beat as the name would suggest.

Transistor is one of the best science fiction, story driven action games I've ever played. The game features stunning visuals that change the more the story progresses. The soundtrack of the game is amazing, as it not only sets the tone for certain parts of the story and world, but can also feature great vocals exclusive to the game. The combat itself is unique, as it features a autochess-like hybrid where you can plan your attacks between combat.

Although the base game only runes at around 6 hours, the story, visuals and combat make this game a great purchase.

I came into this game expecting a lot, cool graphics and aesthetics, variation of exploratory areas, varying enemies, a good story and great gameplay. This game sat in my wishlist for years and never once dropped below an overwhelmingly positive review status. Long story short, it seemed this game was gonna be one of the best games I've ever played.

What the game did well:
The game delivered with a killer soundtrack and pleasing aesthetics for all the areas, which really gave the four playable areas their own character and identity. The lore and story of the world was very cryptic, and by completing the base game it does nothing elaborate however. The ranged weapons offer a range of play styles and the upgrades for the Drifter offer the same.

What the game left me disappointed with:
-Story: Despite the world building the game seems to build to a climax at the end, it leaves it vague. To discover the hidden lore of the world, you have to go back and grind certain object to unlock the backstory. Even after all of this, what information it gives you is vague in itself.

-Combat: After reaching and defeating the northern or "first" boss, I expected every boss after to increase in difficulty. This didn't happen however, as the ability to upgrade the Drifter and their weapons makes bosses that should be "harder" increasingly easy. Even the final boss took me 2 attempts versus the 20+ I had for the first boss. Often times clearing an ambush of enemies is more frustrating than a boss. Speaking of enemies, I had hope for a variation of enemies per area. unfortunately, each area had a max of 3 unique enemies exclusive to that area, while the rest of the enemies repeated per area.

-Upgrades: While some of the upgrades are necessary for certain areas of the game such as the dash or medpacks, some do not add the gameplay or are not necessary to even bother with. Upgrades such as the grenade or certain combat upgrades are not needed to progress. Once you have the basic premise down for combat, which is just melee, dodge, ranged repeat in most cases, most of the upgrades will only be used on basic mobs if ever.

-Keys: Keys should not be as hard to find as they are. Why lock areas that are crucial to unlock the story behind keys that require even more grinding and searching, just to be left with vague answers? I feel like here the game looses its cryptic charm, as in the time taken to find the keys the game loses it's mystery in a way.

I would recommend this game if it's on sale because in a way it's fun, but this is not a great game. Over-hyper at best.
