After over 10,000 hours played across multiple accounts I can, without hesitation, STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND this game. This used to be a game I would recommend without a doubt to anyone interested in pvp and survival. Now however, after years of NEGLECT by the developers to improve performance in any meaningful way, the addition of roleplayer update after roleplayer update adding content to the game that the engine can barely support, your biggest threat is lagging out if your neighbor builds more than 3 bases in a compound. You have horrible render range even at max settings because otheriwse this unoptimized pile of garbage would probably run at 45 fps or less on the best systems. You have freezes in combat almost every time you fire your weapon which gets you killed 9/10 times and it has been this way for years. The game used to be great but not any more. hit detection is garbage, armor system is total trash compared to the original, and bullet damage is a joke. You can drink magical teas that make a bolt have to triple headshot you to kill you. How fantastic the tea I had a few min ago absorbed one of those bullets for me! These developers even had to add in a new game mode and label it as "hardcore" when in reality its just the way the game originally was with minor difficulty additions. The game has strayed so far from its origin of a hardcore survival and its so totally unrecognizable that the developers had to make a separate internal game mode where taking away SAFEZONES in a HARDCORE SURVIVAL game was a big factor. Imagine being so soft you need a SAFEZONE in a no rules, everything goes, only the best survive, survival game. In summary the game used to be fantastic. Updates were meaningful for a while and the combat felt rewarding. Now, combat is total ass, you can take 4/5 arrows to the back of your head because the leather strap deflects bullets just as well as a the actual metal plate on the facemask, and the hazmat suit is a 1 piece throw on set of armor that negates 3 tiers of early game armor for 1 inventory slot. Flat 30% bullet protection from a tarp. Well done Facepunch. What an absolute joke armor and combat system now. Stay away from this used to be awesome title turned abomination. This game could be free from today till the end of eternity and in its current form it still wouldn't be worth the money.
