Pathologic 2 review

Ok synopsis: You play as Atermy Burakh a Russian who is also apart of the kin (Russian steppe tribe) and you are returning from "the capital" from your studies in surgery as you received a letter from your father that ♥♥♥♥ is going down. You arrive to the town (its in the Russian steppes) to find your father has been presumably murdered and oh no you are suspect number 1, but soon enough you stop being suspect number one and the worst of it all a plague arrives to the town. You the surgeon of the kin are to combat this plague.

First impressions: THE OPENING TO THIS GAME IS FANTASTIC ITS THE MOST ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TYPE OPENING I'VE EVER SEEN. Its peak psychological horror where its so uncanny and disturbing and COOL AS ♥♥♥♥ and I advise you even if you wont play the game at least watch the opening to this game its fantastic and near perfect then the events of the first day unfold where you are public enemy number 1 and its very difficult.

Game play: the game is a survival/psychological horror so it includes elements like hunger, thirst, exhaustion, and immunity/infection and you will be battleing all of these elements during your adventure to cure the plague and it works really well as you feel like you are always in a rush and always under pressure to do everything as efficiently as possible (and thats the point). The fighting mechanic is pretty good in 1v1 but then you put in 2 or 3 enemies and its stun lock after stun lock after stun lock with no ability to escape as you most likely have no stamina so its not great but some argue that thats the point to make conflict feel not worth it but take that as you will.

Story: story and the dialogue is fantastic and I love it. its maybe one of the most well written games I've ever played. You can clearly tell that every character has a different personality and the dialogue options perfectly represent your character, Burakh. The story is VERY good and the main selling point of the game it was truly a joy reading about the town and the events that are unfolding in front of you. The game is probably worth it just for the story. Also the atmosphere in this game is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cool its this mix between industrial revolution steppe culture city life and it works so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ well as well as the narration at the end of each day adds another element of cool as ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ atmosphere. the atmosphere is truly amazing

Psychological horror: The game is a "horror game" and its sets a new standard for them. The game has a few "jumpscares" but all they are is the executors appearing behind you unexpectedly and it works really well as all though its a jumpscare it works with the mystery of the executors (executors are stage hands for the theatre that seem to predict the future and appear in places they shouldn't). On the topic of executors, the executors and the tragedians they are also really cool and add another element of horror mystery and just cool story to the game.

Music: not much to say not as good as the first game but not terrible. Meh.

Overall: Pathologic 2 is a great remaster/squeal/remake of the first Pathologic and is truly worth the 20 hours although its really difficult and unapologetic game play (which with a new update can be tweaked to make a lot easier if you cant take it anymore) it sets a new standard for psychological horror games which have been kinda dead for the past forever. 8/10 game really good worth the buy but its difficult nature can be off putting.
