Overall, Ark is a fun game albeit frustrating as hell. The first hour of the game can be the most discouraging of any I have played. You will be scrounging for enough resources to build a weak shack which will inevitably be destroyed by a large carnivore that you don't see coming. Once you have a house and a few domesticated dinosaurs however the game becomes exponentially more fun.

The adventure aspect of this game is captivating, the scenery and hidden ruins are nothing short of amazing. This all seems good until you explore your first cave and realize there are other levels to the landscape.

The resource cost of items might seem unfair at first but it is simply a progression buffer. You will find yourself able to craft nearly anything in giant quantities in the mid-game and thereafter. This makes it feel satisfying when you finally get a steady metal and gunpowder supply and can use a firearm in your adventures.

There are some downsides without positive angles however,
* The game decides to update itself much more often than it should, and does not fix bugs
* Multiplayer play is frustratingly poorly set up
* Some mechanics and animations are still that of an early stage game even if this is years old
* (More of a personal view) The game tends to be so frustrating at times, when days of work are lost or constant updates hit I find myself tired of it for a month or two at a time before I take the time to play it again.
* This game randomly crashes and you have to perform a file sweep to catch whatever two files are missing. If this was a game that did not take up over 100 Gb of disk space this would be okay but given how large the files are and how long it takes to find the one random file that deleted itself, this is an issue.

IN CONCLUSION: If you have patience or don't mind getting invested for the long hall this game is an amazing creation I have spent plenty of hours on and enjoyed. Hopefully with time it only gets better. 7/10
