This game is absolutely killer. The score, art, and writing all combine to make an intense and gripping experience. Overall, the game play comes down to time management (having the player character constantly lose health is a wonderfully immersive choice that makes the early hours feel particularly dire), and the rest of the time it is a CYOA visual novel.

Most of what kept me from loving Disco Elysium was its volume. Everything about that game was great, but there was just SO MUCH. This game carries the same emotional weight with a lot less verbosity, making it a rich and dense experience. Stories are wrapping up and unfolding at the same time, making the world feel independent from the player. While the visual design and music make this game a feast for the eyes and ears, the writing really is the lifeblood that keeps the player engaged. Everything down to the smallest interaction is written with such an efficient but delicate style that it makes you want to have every text box at your fingertips.

Citizen Sleeper impacted me deeply, and the story I found left me crushed by my own decisions. Again, it's a killer game that deserves more attention, and I just hope the sequel can live up to it.
