I'm not quite sure where to begin...

It's been a while since I've felt that lingering emptiness after completing a game; typically, that feeling only happens after finishing an exceptionally well-written book. However, after finishing BG3, that "what do I do with my life now?" sentiment hit me. I guess I have to keep playing until I'm sick of it. Although, I doubt that's even possible. The game has a lot of different choices. It makes each playthrough an entirely different experience. You can play the game five times and still discover something new. It's downright mind-boggling!

I was a bit stubborn at first. I was reluctant to give the game a chance. Friends tried to convince me, and I kept saying no. Why? It wasn't my typical genre and I didn't like the combat style. Turns out, I was dead wrong.

The first ten hours had me skeptical about the combat—feeling sluggish, impatience bubbling as I waited my turn in battles with lots of creatures. It was an unfamiliar pace, overwhelming at times. Yet, the compelling story kept me hooked. It felt less like I was playing a game and more like I was ensnared in the pages of one of my beloved fantasy books. Around the ten-hour mark, I found myself enjoying the combat. I really liked it! You have to be very thoughtful instead of just spam clicking in combat. I also appreciated the luxury of sipping coffee without fearing its temperature drop hehe.

The world is so pretty! I also think I did not pay attention because I finished the game in 85 hours and some people have 150 hours for just one playthrough. I must have missed a lot of side quests. But it gives me an excuse to start my next playthrough.

The characters in BG3 had remarkable depth. They weren't mere virtual entities; I felt a genuine connection, particularly with my companions. It wasn't a solitary gaming experience—I had them by my side throughout this amazing journey. If I wanted a talk, I could just chat with any of them or talk to a random person on the map. But I gotta say.. It was so hard to click on ''End journey'' and leave everyone behind.

And the romance? Oh, man. Astarion, at first glance, seemed like a charming darkish character trying to get into my pants, but his backstory unfolded with such depth and emotion. While I can't speak for the other romances, Astarion was so well done. I even felt a pang of guilt when anyone else attempted to flirt lmao.

There's so much more I could delve into, but I'll leave it here. BG3 undoubtedly earned its Game of the Year Award, and hats off to those who convinced me to play it. <3

I am a proud Belgian, GG Larian Studios.
