Updated 7-5-2024: deleted my previous review because it was so badly written, but I'm leaving the comments alone.

This game has so much potential. A game like this with all of its freedom and capabilities can be such a powerful thing. Unfortunately, I do not believe this game will ever get to that point.

Absolutely FANTASTIC possibilities when it comes to building things in the editor. Like most games like this, it's heavily limited in terms of what you can and can't do, but overall, there are seriously infinite things you can make.

This is why I have so many hours playing this game. Not because I enjoy doing missions or playing on servers, but because I like building vehicles and making things work.

However, that is where the game's downfall lies.. The gameplay.

1. Multiplayer has always been buggy and probably always will be. Scattered input delay, high internet/hardware demands, and a questionable public community. It suffers from all of these things to varying degrees. I will say, the developers have made a few major changes that have at least mitigated a few of these problems, but the rest of them will either remain, or slowly get worse over time.

2. The physics are questionable when it comes to- well.. everything. Countless times, it has been proven that there are serious problems limiting builders and vehicles that all have to do with the way the game's physics work. One specific example: gliding. Aircraft will not fly unless under power or any form of acceleration in this game. Utilization of glitches is necessary for "semi-realistic" flight.

3. Finally, the never-ending fight to be heard by the game's own developers. For as long as I have been playing this game (Nov. 2018), I've always heard that the developers turn a bit of a blind eye when it comes to paying attention to the community's suggestions and criticism. It's understandable to not listen to all of the folks who do nothing more than brazenly criticize and call-out their wrongdoings and mistakes, but in doing so, they've also put themselves in a position where they are widely viewed as completely ignorant of their playerbase. Unfortunately, this has only worsened over the years and I don't see it improving much in the future.

The limitations aren't a high price to pay when it comes to the creativity aspect of this game. You can always work around problems you can't fix and you can always change your mindset.

If you've seen the game and really want to try it out, don't let me persuade you otherwise! It's a great learning experience! BUT, if you get stuck for the long-term, these issues will slowly arise as you start to learn and understand more, and the game slowly becomes less enjoyable to play.

I know this is long and my opinion doesn't matter, but thank you to anyone who reads this.
I hope Stormworks goes in the right direction.

All comments past this point have to do with the previously written review.

I took the time to read all of that and I fully agree. The main reason I gave it a bad review is because of the single core support though.

Similar to that there are many inconsistencies regarding mass. Fluid weight differs by twofold between pre-made tanks and custom tanks. Character weighs 50 mass but when in seat it weighs ~3 mass only. 3x7 size doors are 20 mass, but when you make a custom door using door panels and frames, 3x7 size custom door becomes ~180 mass. Some components are too heavy some are too light, mass balance is quite bad.

Developer said there will be no mass rebalance in the last QA video. Hovewer months before 1.0 update, another dev/admin prevented me from creating a suggestion in the Stormworks issue tracker to show mass imbalance between certain components, because a big mass rebalance update was coming...

I think worst part of the physics in Stormworks is the water density. Water in this game is too lightweight, only 1/10 of real world if you take 1 mass = 1 kg which must be the correct equation because character is 50 mass and Stormworks Discord FAQ said that mass is kg. (But this was removed after my bug report about water weight.) If you want to build a ship or amphibious vehicle (car, plane, helicopter) you will need way too big enclosed volume or landing floats on your vehicle to float on water. In most cases your vehicle will sink in to water much more than it normally do in real world. Take 1 mass = 10 kg when building an amphibious vehicle.

I built many real scale airplanes and their mass is very close to real one if I take 1 mass = 1kg. For example my Boeing 314 in Stormworks is 21600 mass, real one is 21950 kg. My Grumman G-21 Goose in Stormworks is 2180 mass, real one is 2460 kg. These numbers also indicate 1 mass must be 1 kg.

More so with this one though. The game only runs on one core, and doesn't support multithreading.

i saw the part with multiplayer and i would like to say any game if you have bad wifi will be "not fun"

you should get an award for playing this game for over 4000 hours and then giving it a thumbs down

i have about 300 game is still bad for physics if you have a fast train an your NOT the host you will go flying off the rails i have gone from one side to the other side of the map in 5 minutes (from arctic to the main island an off the map) seriuosly buggy
