To begin, I know this is a little bit late since the game came out about a year ago, but I just saw this in my store recommended and thought I'd give it a try and I am so not upset with my choices.

Here's my full review:

THE INITIAL STARTUP
- I firstly only downloaded the game because I was looking for a new free to play horror game and I saw this one pop up and thought, "what the hell,". Next when I first booted it all up I was dropped into something pretty spooky and it caught my attention perfectly, this will be spoiler free for the time being and I'll tell you when spoilers are coming. It hooked me and from there I played for the next two days captivated by the style of artwork and the message the game stood for.

WHY I RATED THE GAME POSITIVELY
- This game is not for everyone, hell it even tells you 3 times when you start up the shortcut. Some people praise it for the message of suicide and depression, and others criticize it for the alone or for the minor glitches or whatever that they saw during their runthrough, understandable but I completely and utterly disagree. The direction in which the game goes to try and make the player see both sides of life and death are spelled out with subtle hints and lay the foundation for the means of a deeper game, I praise the game for that. Next, If you play the game over three times and choose life for all those endings then you receive a perfect heartfelt message about why you should always choose life and why you need to fight the fears we have and keep moving forward. The message stuck with me deeply, while I myself did not have depression or anxiety at all in my life but I have helped people through certain situations in which they needed my advice and that ending was all that I told them and it just affirmed my place in this world and that what I was doing was right.

HORROR ASPECT
- Honestly if you want to play for the horror aspect of the game you have missed the point entirely as to why Sirhaian made the game. While the game when I initially ran through it gave me a sense of uneasiness and fear about whats behind the next corner in the school or what the blackhole would do to me if it caught me, once I got the hang of what the game is all about then that fear subsided and turned into curiosity.

RECAP AND RAPUP
- When the Darkness comes is a brilliant game that takes the ideas of anxiety, suicide, depression, and loneliness and personifies it with beautiful visuals and a horror aspect that holds on to you the whole way through. People who struggle with those topics may find the visuals disturbing but I promise if you fight through the fear and choose what you think is right then the outcome of the game will be stellar and beautiful beyond belief. The game is perfectly balanced with levels that fill the player with fear and scenes that give the player hope and calm. The poetry and poetic message of the game perfectly combats the scenes of despair and the depressing narrator. When the Darkness comes is now one of my favorite games of all time because it truly spoke to me and made me feel a sense of self-worth.

The piano is also beautifully put and sets the overall tone for everything.
