I got this game from Humble Monthly, and while it has some rough spots, I ended up satisfied with deciding to play this game. In World to the West, you play the role of four different characters, each with their own abilities to travel the world with. Without spoiling anything about the game, this game can be summarized as an exploration game with some relic collection integrated with the main plot.

The game itself isn't difficult to get through once you understand what you need to do, as most of the puzzles aren't hard. A common issue that seems to effect players at a glance is simply being lost or not 100% sure what to do next. The game doesn't offer much in the way of assistance other than a waypoint that tells you where the next main objective is. I had a number of moments where I came to a stop unsure what to do, but persevered and found out I was missing something obvious or overthinking the solution to the problem. There were definitely questions I had along the way, but they were answered with continued playtime (once again I will not spoil why).

Overall through, I liked the art of the game, some of the music and while the gameplay isn't something I would consider revolutionary, it perfectly fits the bill looking for an adventure exploration game with puzzle elements thrown in as well. If the art style gets you and you want something that doesn't constantly push you on a one lane track forward to the end, I say go for it.

Absolutely a yes recommendation. This game REEKS of style and charm and has a kickass soundtrack to boot. The game is challenging as you may have heard others say, so be aware.

Campaign Only
There's no feeling more satisfying than learning how to use all of your weapons on the fly and playing enough to become an untouchable badass. The game is fun and fast, offers multiple difficulty levels and ways to choose weapon upgrades across multiple playthroughs. Throw in tons of secrets, and you've got a campaign that is super replayable especially if you like to challenge yourself on the higher difficulties.

Not a terribly difficult game on Normal mode at least, but it is a SHMUP that caters to those familiar with Irem's works in the late 80s and early 90's. Not too expensive, and worth the purchase for those that would like a hidden gem packaged in a similar light as Irem SHMUPs. The best way I can describe it is R-Type charging mechanic meets vertical screen format.

I had a friend tell me to check this out because it was done by the same people that made Castle Crashers and Battleblock Theatre. I was initially a bit hesitant because of the early access status and the turn based combat which I generally haven't cared for in games since the early 2000's.

The first hour or two may be rough in figuring out the quirks and getting your butt kicked, but once I got the hang of it, this game's charm and absolute craziness that made me love the previously mentioned two games finally hooked me in here. At first combat feels slow with the turn based movement, but a couple of hours it turned out to be fine with the given need to position units carefully and plan out strategies ahead of time. This game gives lots of customization options, lots of different classes you can recruit for your squad, and quite a bit of depth with each class and equipment having their own ups and downs.

Playing solo gives quite a bit of content, but if you have a buddy to play co-op with, this game's content increases exponentially as you two can coordinate your own squads to take into battles. Mixing and matching our teams has been an absolute blast. The music in this game is pretty damn catchy too, with no themes really feeling like they overstay their welcome or becoming too repetitive. If you loved the artwork from Behemoth's other titles, and you loved the narrator from Battleblock Theatre, you absolutely need to get this game while you still can at a lower price in it's early access status.

Think of what I am about to say as more of a neutral response, since there's only recommend or not recommend.

Hardcore veterans of the shmup genre will probably blow through this game like nothing. In terms of difficulty, it is lower than other shmup games. I personally find the music not very memorable, but I suppose it's a preference thing. This would be something I would suggest if you like shmups, but want something less intense to start off with and can't be bothered to play bullet hell or more difficult shmups.

I got Copoka as part of a Humble Monthly a long time ago, and went in not sure what to expect. Copoka trailers show exactly what you get, you play the role of a bird that collects objects for it's nest, flying around in a big open town and playing no role in the random conversations you hear from bystanders except listening. It's a pretty straightforward game and not very long to 100%, but I will say that I found it to be unexplainably relaxing in a way. They do suggest you use a controller for this game, but I got through just fine with a keyboard. There is no mouse support however, which is a disappointing miss since I really would have loved this game more with a mouse to control flying.

I would recommend this to those looking for something to kick back with and take it easy on.

DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME ABOVE 60hz REFRESH RATE.
Jumps will randomly not work at all if the refresh rate on your monitor is set above 60hz.

The game itself is ok, short, and not too difficult at any particular point. It isn't completely awful at 60hz, but it's not something I can recommend. I am mostly surprised that the jumping bug was never fixed and I should not be expected to have to deal with it in the first place. Expect to get 3 hours or so out of all of the single player stuff.

A fun, short intense game with some funny exploits.

Makes for a stressful first playthrough (I recommend you don't play on normal, it's too easy and makes the first playthrough lame), and extra challenging difficulties where you can use some tricks to make the game more interesting if beating the whole game without dying is your sort of thing for those.

So Toki Tori 2...

It's definitely a lot more complex than I would have thought, moreso than the first game even. It initially caught me off guard how it plays nothing like the original Toki Tori, so I didn't warm up to it right away until I played for a little while to the first different looking area. Toki Tori 1 was a puzzle game with minor platforming elements in contained levels, wereas Toki Tori 2 is a puzzle exploration game in a big world. The difference between the two is that TT1 can be played in distinguishable chunks picking each level as you progress. TT2 is one big world where you don't select worlds, difficulties, or anything that was the case in TT1. You have a map that you can look at, the ability to jump to key spots on the map, and branching paths that move all throughout the world. Completely forget anything about TT1 and strap in for a game that requires more dedication when it comes to TT2.

TT2 is often compared to metroid or referred to as a Metroidvania, which is a bit of a skewed perception in that Toki Tori doesn't learn new abilities or get stronger in any way...instead YOU as the player slowly learn over time how everything can interact with one another with just your two abilities. The game starts you off right away, no tutorials, no cutscenes, no nada just thrown into the world and go from there. You have to figure out how chirp and stomp work and connect the dots along the way. It is amazing how many different things can happen across the game with just these two abilities, clearly a lot of thought went into the puzzle design and as long as you understand how everything works, the game doesn't throw any cheap curveballs or change the rules at any point. Once again, despite the game's cute appearance it is no joke and does nothing to hold your hand. You get no free passes, no rewinds mid-puzzle, no assistance. YOU are the one that has to make all the moves and figure out ways to get through everything.

If any of what I just said sounded remotely interesting, you should consider this game. It is vastly underrated both difficulty wise and gameplay wise.
