You can befriend a trash-eating beetle to rob villages for you.

I miss you, Eater of Worlds.

Some of the most fun I've had playing a game in a while. I keep wanting to go faster but I just fly off the map instead.

This game is the equivalent of going downstairs to get a glass of water, but on your way to the kitchen you notice that your dog pissed on the carpet. You get the things to clean up the mess and once you're done you also notice that your mail had arrived, so you go outside and grab your mail. Finally, you get back to your room, close the door, sit down, put your headphones on, and then realize you forgot to get your glass of water.

Very sweet game, I feel like a kid playing flash games on the school netbooks again.

The skull levels are actually brutal (the first one took me over half an hour to beat), and the levels have a lot of creativity and fun mechanics. I had a great time playing the co-op world with one of my friends, though it's a shame that there's only one co-op world, I want more lol.

Simple and elegant, this game delivers a captivating take on the turn-based tactics genre with a 2d side-scrolling perspective and manual aiming. I played through the entire game on veteran difficulty and it is a decent challenge for those into strategy games.

I wish there was a way to roll back a move command because an incorrect placement that wasn't meticulously thought through can easily lead to losing a party member early into a mission, which will oftentimes snowball into a failure because you NEED to cover multiple angles in larger rooms and there is no way to revive characters. The punishment for losing a mission (-50% of your total money) is very harsh and I wish it was a little more lenient.

The sprites are very well made, and the artstyle is clean and consistent throughout. I love the feeling of progression with the weapons and items you unlock over time, I just wish there were more ways to customize a character than one weapon and 2 utility items (and a hat, of course!).

Music and sound design is spot on. I did have an issue early on where I couldn't hear any gun sounds but I fixed it by changing my computer audio to stereo instead of quadraphonic. I really like the songs that play in the bars throughout the game and also the songs that play after defeating a chapter boss.

Enemy designs are cool and and there are a lot of different kinds of bad guys you're going to face (especially in the final chapter of the game). I wish you were given more weapons/utilities to pick from because most are just variations of what you've already seen before (with exceptions like the archduke RPG and some other rare weapons). An example are things to prep up the room for your own benefit, like deployable covers or landmines because there are multiple instances of me clearing out a room too fast and having to simply wait around before enemies spawn from the doors again, and I wish I could've done more to prepare for the next wave of enemies than pressing the guard button multiple turns in a row.

Overall a very fun game, it was a little hard to stick through to the end because the game is a bit slow at introducing new mechanics in the first 2 chapters. The pacing does pick up at the last chapter and I am happy to have stuck through and experienced the rest of what this game has to offer.

This game is an absolute joy to play. I thought it would be West of Loathing but with a prohibition-era H.P. Lovecraft setting, but it feels very different in many ways.
Firstly, it's a lot more "immersive" or whatever you call it; even simply creating a character isn't just assigning a look and name in the main menu, but going through the prologue and making your character creation choices through various interactions. The game's polish also really helps with the immersion, despite stickfigure graphics and grayscale colors the game does it's best to present the world through small details, effects, and nice parallax backgrounds.
I got curious and went back to West of Loathing just to revisit some areas, and Shadows over Loathing feels much "cleaner" than it's predecessor.
Second, you're not just exploring a western map to your heart's content, but rather, multiple small-scale maps that you get access to one-at-a-time every chapter of the story you complete. Yeah you could say that West of Loathing's map expands as you play too because the railroad extends with each part of the main quest gets completed, but it just feels like more of the same map to roam and explore, whereas Shadows over Loathing's maps are entirely different locations (at least the 3 that I have unlocked because I've not finished the game yet).
Lastly, I like the UI more here, it's much less cluttered than it's predecessor's and displays a perk's effects without needing to do anything to show it.
Side note, the music in this game is really cool, often it's orchestral stuff but in some areas there are multiple sources of instruments playing and you can walk between them and hear the balance of the sounds change but they all go together to create a whole song.

Apart from the comparison, some criticism that I have for the game is that you'll be doing quite some backtracking because of time-travelling mechanic stuff. The time-travelling stuff is cool, but I wish I could strap a doorway to my back so I could change between past and present wherever. The combat isn't too much better, or hasn't hooked me yet because I still feel confused as to what the point is to half of my abilities/items.

Anyways, some final thoughts are that this game is now one of my favorites. I already loved the first game and I love this one even more. It has already made me laugh many times in my ongoing playthrough and dialogue has not been more entertaining. I can already see myself playing this game again but making different decisions, because I have a feeling that there's still so much that I haven't seen. It might look like a simple game at first, but it's far more sophisticated than you'll expect. 10/10 Would kiss my future self on the lips again.
