Big fan of CoH2 and I'm really liking this so far. It's weird to see how many CoH2 fans are treating this game like anathema when its predecessor absolutely released in a worse state - and look how that turned out! It's state deserves criticism but it has a very solid base and I'm excited to play more and see how it develops.

didn't play much of this at all because it's really just not fun at all. I understand it was probably a design choice rather than mistake but the level design and mechanics are so incredibly basic, the art is good but the animation is bad and it being intentional does not fix that either. No desire to give it anymore time.

Early Access Review
Yeah this ones gonna be an all-timer. Seriously, if the level of quality of what is available in the EA build is maintained this will be an all-time greatest shooter at full release. The shooting from Blood and Shadow Warrior combined with the exploration and those little extra mechanics which make the world that much more immersive and the gameplay that much more creative from Deus Ex and System Shock. Add on top of that some genuinely thrilling new additions to those formulae like wall running and an in-depth melee system, parrying bullets mid flight, it creates the possibility for combat to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ NUTS. The devs refer to it as a combo system which is fair but misleading, essentially it boils down to incredibly fast paced weapon switching combat: throw a smoke bomb, blast a few stunned enemies, swap to a sword to slice bullets out of the air, slide tackle the guy who shot you and use him as a human shield before uppercutting his friend, amazingly fun and I'm not good enough to pull it off well. But combined with the aforementioned exploration and yes, stealth mechanics (it has a Thief light gem), there's this very satisfying gameplay loop of skulking about the level, attempting to conserve your very limited resources by avoiding fights or picking off enemies one by one, before you're caught or you pounce erupting into a sudden explosion of violence. And crucially the game's difficulty is in the right spot to engender that kind of gameplay, play it on rare and I think you'll find the game tests you on every element of its gameplay, not letting you dance around enemies with no resistance, but not forcing you to play like a scared child all the time either, you instead play like a cool cyber assassin using every tool at her disposal to get an edge over her enemies, as cool cyber assassins tend to do. The level design is also just wonderful, straight up, there are so many paths and crevices and things to explore and interact with that often make you feel like a genius for discovering. And I do have to give a more specific and detailed mention to those little persistent mechanics which make everything that much more engaging: having to actually type out commands to hack terminals, heating up food to increase its nutritional value, locational limb damage, the ability to use enemies as human shields, there is so much like this and I won't mention it all because I think it's fun to have those 'aha!' moments when you discover a mechanic, and I'd hit my character limit. It is just an elegant, classy and effortless amalgam of Immersive Sim and Boomer Shooter mechanics (buzz words buzz words).

On the periphery, the soundtrack is solid and the art direction is fantastic. There are currently two levels, the Pinafore (a ringed space station) and the demo level set in an Eternal-Night Grungy Cyberpunk Cityscape and both feel amazing. The Pinafore feels lived in, cohesive and ♥♥♥♥♥♥;' HUGE, I won't say much more on it because the things I want to mention about its visual design sort of spoil its level design; but its awesome. The cityscape looks even better, from a slimy mob-run nightclub out onto the balconies of the high-rises it all feels and looks so good. Broadly the world design is fascinating because it's very classic cyberpunk, in the way you don't think of when you hear the term anymore. It's less Cyberpunk Red (2077) and more Neuromancer, it's not sleek and beautiful with neon bedazzling you everywhere you go; it's brown and dark and gross and grimy, the neon only serves to illuminate the rot. People live in concrete jungles, choked by smog and all their dreams are counterfeit, journey to the stars has them working on a colony ship for the rest of their life with no chance of ever returning home. The creators have a singular and magnetic vision for the world they're creating, unlike many games of its type. The world design of Fortune's Run is in no way secondary to the gameplay. It's a symbiosis I wanna get in on like a third lover.

Lastly, the game is in early access! There is so much more to come yet despite this it very much worth purchasing right now. It has its issues, it can be a bit janky, corpses and items might phase shift out of the level, enemies might be alerted to you through walls, I fell out the level one time, some textures broke in an area and performance is much worse than what would be expected by a game of this visual style, not able to break about 70 on my high end PC. But there is nothing game-breaking or even really that deleterious to the experience, and again, it's a work in progress these issues will be fixed and if you'd like you can help the devs do it. In terms of value for money: I think if you bought the game now and it never got an update it'd be worth your money. There is only two levels yes, but I think for an average player they constitute about 5 hours gameplay at least, they are LONG and BIG levels. If this game interests you in any way, I think you should buy it, projects like these are rare and this is definitely one should roll the dice on.

fantastic old school shooter, obviously heavily inspired by blood and you could drop this in front of me and say it was blood 3 and id believe you fully. It was incredibly reminiscent of Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Wolf 09' actually. with the environments, weapon upgrading and general feel of being deep behind enemy lines and only going in deeper. The weapon upgrades system particularly reminded me of '09. Even some of the enemy designs are similar like the dual shotgun guys and the flamethrower guys, looked exactly like RTCW enemies, I mean ♥♥♥♥ it has the FG42 and the Flamethrower. Maybe I'm making connections that aren't there. Anyway, the gunplay feels amazing, nothing isn't useful, the enemies and their placements are varied, secrets prod at your imagination and never feel stupid not too easy. The game had a great sense of atmosphere to the point where certain set pieces genuinely creeped me out. The music is just phenomenal, one of the few soundtracks i bought. There is not a genuine criticism I can make of this game, other than that I died because the reload animation for the shotgun in the interlude map kept obscuring my vision. Also I had no idea there was a kick till I was done with the game and that makes me really sad. I think this type of game, like Blood before it, is best played on the second hardest difficulty in this case very hard. It allows for a great balance of measured tactical play, throwing dynamite aroudn corners and picking off distant enemies with your rifles; and expressing how much of a ♥♥♥♥-hot bombista you are, sprinting and jumping and sliding around weapon switching and firing off both shotgun barrels right into some dudes ♥♥♥♥♥♥ brain. Anything easier only warrants the super aggressive style and extreme does the opposite. Anyway good game with more to come get it on sale now or wait because the dev deserves more of your money.

I really liked then hated this game but I've turned around completely its one of the best rpgmaker-esque games out there (i say esque because I don't know if it was actually made in rpgmaker and will not check), and half the competition is its sequel.
