It doesn't matter how many eyes and teeth she have, or how big she gets, or how monstrous looking she is, she is my baby girl. She is the goodest bestest doggo and the greatest thing that ever happened in this godforsaken dungeon. Moonless, you are the most meaningful and valued member of this team!

I haven't been so obsessed with a game since Bloodborne (where I obtained my first platinum ever) which I find ironic because these two games share two key elements: one is gruelling, at times unjust difficulty, second is cosmic horror as the game's main leitmotif.

F&H is ruthless to the point it starts to look comical, yet fascinating. It is so disturbing that I saw people complaining they had nightmares after playing it for too long (I myself had a couple, lol), and this is just another reason why this game is so fascinating: today it has become easy to scare the player with mind-blowing graphics, realistic gore and monsters, and classic horror tricks such as jumpscares. It is much more challenging though to scare the ♥♥♥♥ out of the player in a minimalistic dungeon crawler made with RPG maker with turn-based combat. Yet it does effortlessly. I swear I felt my heart skip a beat each time I read "A terrifying presence has entered the room" with that eerie sound effect.

And F&H manages to maintain the atmosphere of constant dread, slowly driving you mad, slowly feeding your paranoia. No matter what you do, no matter what ending you get, death is inevitable. Even if you, scarred and traumatised for the rest of your life, escape the dungeon, it will never fully let you go. It is now a part of you and it will haunt you forever.

And oh, I can talk for hours about its lore and story, about the way it's implemented into smallest details.

I recommend everyone who has started this game to go in blindly (at least for the first time) and to explore it yourself because it's totally worth your time. It's macabre, with little to no hope, very cruel, and - surprisingly - very addictive. It will infuriate you and you will go back to it still. You will make a lot of mistakes - like, A LOT, and with more failures you will gain more knowledge, so you will think "Ha! Now I know how to play this!". And you will proceed effortlessly for about an hour, but then the game will give you a slap on the face again. And again. And it will infuriate you again. And that's why you will be coming back to it. It will make you feel helpless, powerless, it will make you realize how small you truly are, how much of your success depends solely on luck, and yet you get back and try again and again. And isn't it how we deal with our everyday struggles and grievances?

P.S. the soundtrack is just sooo... tomb of the gods is my favorite, I was feeling so anxious and mesmerized at the same time when I reached the location where it starts playing.

The game hates you, simply put.
There are no honorable duels, no fair design, you will have to exploit all the advantages you have, lest you end up with all your limbs chopped off, your companions pulverized, and your enemy about to do things to you that make Slaneesh's birth look like a Tuesday.
This is an RPG, and your role is that of a victim. You will die, painfully, pointlessly, and at least twice solely due to your terrible decision-making, but with each run you will learn something new, and that is more valuable than any in-game loot. Well, besides Blue Sin I suppose. The more you know, the deeper you'll progress - soon, the enemies that gutted you so ruthlessly up until now will be the ones getting gutted, and you'll get deeper into the dungeon, and things will get only worse and more eerie.

Overall, the game is absolutely great for people who enjoy dark fantasy - the gameplay loop of getting just a bit further in, finding something new to use, some new passage or interaction, some new cryptic lore tidbit, before inevitably dying horribly and starting anew, one step closer to forcing this nightmarish place into submission, is incredibly enjoyable and allows you to very clearly see yourself improving. Add to that the brilliant soundtrack and the suffocating, oppresive atmosphere and you've got a uniquely masochistic yet entertaining experience.
