I ended up picking up this game because the looks of it reminded me of Gauntlet. The objective for the game is to survive going through 10 floors and making it to the room with the dragon and slaying it. After that you get sent to Abyss mode where you just try and survive for as long as you can.

The game only lets you choose between four characters to begin with with more being unlockable for gold that you can accumulate through your runs. Not only are characters available for purchase but you can also unlock permanent upgrades for your characters to help aid in your struggle to clear every floor and defeat the dragon at the end.

I use the word struggle as I found the game to be rather challenging but really rewarding when I finally managed to get all the way to the end. There are plenty of enemies to slay, enemy spawners that need to be destroyed, mimics, spiked floors, and plenty of bullets needing to be dodged in order to stay alive and see your quest to the end. It is also worth mentioning that if you stay on a floor for too long a character known as Death will spawn in and try to kill you. Early on this could make you feel you need to rush but there is an option you can unlock which will disable that from happening allowing you to take as much time as you need. This is a great option to use for new players getting familiar with the game and players who like to take their time. Of course you can always turn this off once you are more seasoned and looking for an additional challenge.

As you progress you also gain experience points to level up and upon leveling up you get your choice between three randomly selected upgrades you can choose from such as a strength boost or even leveling up your main and secondary attacks. Of course after a run regardless of you being successful or not, your level will be reset to 1 along with the removal of any boosts you received that were because of level ups. Boosts unlocked from the shop are permanent and will not be reset as long as you choose not to do so.

Overall I think Pixel Descent is a very fun game and I look forward to trying to make it to the end with more characters and unlocking everything I possibly can. I will say that the game does require patience however as you will most likely fail and fail again and again until you are able to make it all the way to the end. Of course the amount of failures will depend on the player's individual skill but failure is bound to happen and if you don't have the patience to keep trying and have to have your victory now you probably wont have fun with this game.

Overall I recommend Pixel Descent for players who want a fun and challenging game that also won't break the bank with it being $5.99 at time of this review.
