Very good game. My eyes have become dry pits of sand from not blinking for 10 hours straight.

This game is extremely addictive. The action never stops. And every time you play, you can change how your run goes depending on the weapon/power-ups that you choose. The "post-game" pushes the customisation even further. You can scale the difficulty however you like.

The story is surprisingly good as well. Dialogue is fully voiced, and as far as I have seen, there has been no recycled dialogue. In fact, the narrative is seemingly designed to facilitate more runs, with more story details being revealed with every encounter with a main character.

I highly recommend buying this game - even at full price. It's 100% worth it.

This is without a doubt the most immersive advert for the buying into the Playstation ecosystem. As far as I know, this is the only first party Sony game that has been released for another platform. And maybe the last.

And what a game it is. I haven't been pulled into a game world so completely since the Witcher 3. The world is full of beautiful, lush foliage that sways in the wind and can get pushed aside by moving characters. Textures are highly detailed - in the environment and on people. The eyes in this game are the most life-like seeing orbs that I've ever seen in a game. Truly windows to the soul. And I haven't even gotten to the lighting yet... The landscape is bathed by rays of light that are moved and occluded by clouds, animals, trees and time. I've stopped and taken so many screenshots of the sun and moon peeking through the clouds and casting long shadows across the world.

But all this wouldn't mean much without a worthwhile gameplay experience. And this is also where Horizon shines. For the most part it follows the Far Cry/Assassin's Creed formula of exploring and climbing vantage points. There are bandit camps, but you can skip them if you want to. The big difference comes in with the combat and the machines. Taking down machines is unique and satisfying - and it's not something that gets boring as the game progresses. New machines are introduced at certain parts of the story which also keeps things fresh. There are lots of story-based side missions in the game, some of which you can stumble across while exploring the world. You can completely skip the grindy bandit camps/challenge missions, and still have 50+ hours of game time.

But all this would feel disconnected without a good story and characters! This is also where Horizon shines. The journey of Aloy is told through a well-written story, excellent voice acting, touching character moments and the environment itself. You are given dialogue options at certain parts of the story which dictate how Aloy reacts to certain situations. Depending on which options you choose, in these sections Aloy can be merciful, vengeful, caring, indifferent, cunning, cautious, etc. This makes her seem very dynamic, on top of the driven, witty, playful and empathetic characterisation she brings to the table in the rest of the game. Not many games (or any media for that matter) have such fleshed-out, truly likeable characters that aren't boring "boy-scouts". Aloy has uncompromising morals (at least the way that I played), but she never became preachy or judgemental. This is one of the stories that will stick with me for a long time.

To address the elephant in the room: Optimisation, bugs and crashes. Performance was acceptable for me at 1440p. I wasn't affected by frame-drops on the whole, only very occasional stutters. My game did crash 4 times across my entire playthrough. My biggest gripe was that the texture filtering didn't work. There are such beautiful, highly-detailed textures on display, but they look muddy at the slightest angle due to the bug. These problems didn't affect me that much though. I've heard of people having much worse issues, but the developers are releasing patches to address the bugs.

If the problems do get fixed, or if you are tempted to take a chance and get lucky, I highly recommend you get this game. There are a few nitpicks I have aside from the bugs, but they pale in comparison to the sheer quality on offer here. When I finished the game I was disappointed, but only because I wanted more. This game has left me with a craving. A craving that maybe only November can satisfy.

Disclaimer: The only reason that I don't recommend this game is because of the performance issues on PC. These issues are still prevalent even after the latest patch (re-release), and greatly detract from the game. Now that that's out of the way...

The actual game is fantastic. Even if you've played the previous games to death, the combat will still feel pretty fresh and rewarding. The story is also pretty good. When I finished the game I was kinda blown away by all the twists that are crammed into this game. If you are an avid Batman fan then you might be disappointed by where the story goes, but there are still many rewarding parts of the story for you. Some of the side missions do feel tacked on, but they will also surprise you in the best possible way - trust me! Perhaps the best part of this game is the presentation. Every scene in the game feels "hand-crafted" in a way... Like the developers sat down and said, "How can we make this look dank af?" They probably also had a similar discussion about the textures as they are extremely detailed. Even if you zoom in on objects their level of detail still holds up.

Too bad then that all this hard work goes to waste on the PC port. If there were a few stutters here and there, then I would be okay with it. But this game is plagued by stuttering and low frame-rates. It's disappointing that the actual enjoyment of such a stellar game can be marred by something that WB promised to fix so long ago, and that Nvidia should have picked up on after sponsoring the game with their new graphics cards. If you really want to get it on PC then wait until they actually fix it properly.

TL;DR: Great game, don't buy it on PC.
