Easily the best version of Dawn of War without mods. The Necrons are unbalanced and not fun to fight, but the other races are fine. The campaign is very long and challenging. The campaign, instead of being a series of missions, takes a nonlinear approach. It's a map, with each race having a stronghold. Each stronghold has a series of objectives to beat it. Beating it will eliminate said race from being able to move around the map, and they'll be forced to sit there while you finish off their provinces. That's another thing, provinces. Each province you capture expands your honor guard, global requisition, or both. Global req is used to buy honor guards, and your honor guards are powerful units who will spawn in the map where your commander invades. You can also earn wargear, with which to upgrade your commander. Chaos has the highest damage outputting and tanking commander btw so they're fun

Took me nearly 500 hours to realize this is a sweaty game for even sweatier people. Go get Chivalry 2 if you want a fun, casual experience, and not the gaming equivalent of getting a colonoscopy from a homeless man.

Flawed but fun. Melee combat or high DPS ranged is more or less the meta, due to the nature of, well, high damage.

Pros:
Fast paced, good amount of weapons, free to play, progression system that rewards performance, melee combat mechanics in the form of light attacks, heavy attacks, and parrying, good amount of cosmetics that range from 30k to 40k in era. Reaching rank 5 rewards you with a veteran class you purchase with Advancement Points that has a larger equipment score than the others, allowing much better gear, and more of it.

Cons:
Small playerbase, progression is slowed without a premium version, the best Chaos weapon, Abaddon's Grace, is locked behind a paywall, no singleplayer, difficulty of PvE, and a semi-steep learning curve.

Excusable cons:
Microtransactions in general. I mean, it's a free game. However, Abaddon's Grace is really, really good. It turns your heavy weapons guy into a sniper.
Lackluster visuals. Graphics aren't everything, but the game could have some better lighting at least.

I recommend this game, because once I got past the learning curve it became very enjoyable. Melee was my go-to, and once you practice sparring with another guy from your faction and get a feel for it, I recommend melee as well. Just please download the game. It needs players.
