Early Access Review
It has potential and I want to see it succeed, especially since it has multiplayer. However it is still very early in development, and as of right now, the game it takes inspiration from, Spore, does literally everything better, despite how old it is. Some grievances:
- Fine-tuning the placement of parts, especially limbs, can often be annoying; attempting to rotate the camera to get a better angle can instead unintentionally pick up a part and put it somewhere else or even remove it entirely. I cannot stress this enough: there NEEDS to be an Undo button!!
- Navigating the game world is dreadfully slow, especially on the Farm map. Your creature appears to be locked to a snail's pace, legs or no, and walking slightly faster requires placing more legs & feet, which leaves no room for anything else
- How heavy your creature is seems to have a larger impact than it should; having the biggest, strongest, or most wings you can still won't lift a heavy creature more than a few feet off the ground
- Placing patterns on your creature appears to only apply to the main body/spine, and everything else is solid color.
- Combat mechanics are broken at the moment, the only available attack (Biting) does nothing more than play an animation. I'm assuming this will be fixed in due time
- The roadmap window on the main menu, while already vague, doesn't appear to say much about new creature parts...which is concerning/disappointing, since Spore has at least 5x more parts to choose from, and a much larger and more forgiving creature complexity budget to boot

Again, this game has lots of potential and I hope it grows more over time, and the fact that it seems to be a pet project done by a sole developer is charming. However, about the only two things it has going for it at present are its multiplayer aspect and that it's at a low low price of $0.99. It's a decent buy if you have a dollar and some time to spare though, so please do support the dev if you'd like.

This game showed significant promise in its early stages, and the main draw for me was being able to build and fly my own little fighting drones in the editor - with the hope of eventually being able to create land-based units with tank treads or mechanical legs.
However, development on this title unfortunately seems to have slowed to a complete halt: there hasn't been an update, not even a bugfix, in over a year, and there's been no word on how development is progressing in about 6 months.
They succeeded in their promise of delivering a functional drone editor, but even then a good portion of its features and place-able parts are unfinished, and at the moment users are restricted to basic cubes which they can cut into other shapes, as opposed to the totally freeform shapes seen in prebuilt designs. There's also the slight issue of players being able to min-max their builds to obscene effectiveness by just putting a bunch of wings or something.
I do still hope this game's dev progress picks up again, since I and a lot of other people have invested varying amounts of time and money into it. However, its community is still relatively small, and with the lofty stretch goals it has on its roadmap (more movement parts are the big things for me), it's looking to be a steeper and steeper hill to climb.

Don't get me wrong when I say that I don't recommend, because I did have some fun with it and would rather give it a "neutral." However, it's kind of a short game, and the difficulty curve is somewhat steep until you acquire all the upgrades for your mothership, have all the parts you need, and are basically rolling in cash.

The major problem I have is that, simply put, there has to be a better way to unlock the other skins besides winning the pseudo-multiplayer tournaments. As petty as it may sound ("git gud" and all that), the tourneys are so full of overpowered, cookie-cutter and/or exploit-y builds that it's nigh impossible to win a single match on skill alone, let alone 10.

I give this one a 6/10. Overall not worth the full price of $20, best to wait for a sale. Decent fun playing alone, but may the gods of luck be with you if you try the tournaments.

This game is pretty much dead now, but it was fun as heck when it had a community. Part of that I believe came from the simplicity of it all; it didn't bother with some complex and dramatic story. You just went in, killed things, earned some cash, bought shiny new parts to stick onto your tank and killed more things.

While it was somewhat clear that there were certain classes to choose from, given the selection of parts available, it didn't detract much from the freedom to mix and match, and it was very possible to end up with a tank that was good at blowing stuff up and looking badass doing it. My personal favorite was a dual-turret sniper on spider legs that could self-heal.

All in all, 8/10. Was fun while it lasted.

Where to even start with this game

I guess I'll start with first impressions. Right from the beginning, the mechanic of scanning and documenting the various rocks, flora and fauna of each planet really takes me back to my days playing the space stage of Spore, and with NMS you get a small currency reward for each new specimen, which is a nice little bonus

When I got to building a base, it gave off heavy Subnautica vibes, especially when I learned you can build underwater. I do suggest carefully planning where you want to set up, though, because once you set down a base computer, it's stuck there as far as I know.

As for the rest, it is pretty fun to jump from planet to planet and seeing what there is to see, especially once you find/buy a better ship that you like, and exploring with friends can really improve the experience.

Overall 9/10

Played the game through its original launcher before linking it with Steam, so I basically had to sit in the main menu for 5 minutes just to write this.
From my experience though, the thing's buggy with an overall premature 1.0 launch with less than half of the promised features.

3/10 Basically the only game I know of with solid water (and I don't mean ice). Pretty environments though.

Could barely play the game since first purchase + DLC
Now they're scrapping it with no refund. Low blow.

My old review for this game was mostly negative, pointing out the game's buggy and lackluster experience. However with the recent Exploration Update and its new fully-multiplayer-compatible campaign, the game seems to have had a sort of revival. Let's just hope it stays that way...
