Fun game and even better with friends, feels like Civ and Divinity had a baby. if this game had mod support it'd be even better

TOO GLORY!

Ended up liking this game a lot more than I thought I would. I feel as though the bad reviews stem from people not knowing how to accel or drag and be patient. Some folks also dont know how to take an L in this game and this is coming from a level 20

As a disclaimer there is no nostalgia in this review, I was born in 1999 and haven't played the game until now. To put it short I think the game is a great experience overall, and its the most immersive and terrifying game ive EVER played! It feels modern considering the game came out 21 years ago too. the skill gap is big but if you've played Prey (2017) i can recommend the Normal difficulty up until the "Many Mission" (which i hated btw and ill get into further detail below on why).

System Shock 2 has little to no cut-scenes and the story develops as you progress further throughout the Von Braun. Majority of the story is told through audio logs of the ships crew-mates that you find scattered around, other things are reveled by Shodan while she does her best to belittle you and the whole human race. Theres a sense of wonder to the story and it grows more and more by the end of the game but it falls a little flat due to the ending being meh. Overall i can say the story is fantastic especially the way it is told, some of the audio logs are downright scary af and i was putting myself in the shoes of the crew-mates constantly.

Although the gameplay is a bit dated, it was more modern than i initially thought. The weapons are cool, different ammo types are a nice touch, and the psionic abilities that I used (i didnt go with a psi build) were practical and got me out of some sticky situations. Other things like speed and strength enhancers were pretty clutch as well. The character customization is great and you can tailor your skills to fit many different play styles.

Enemy spawns at times are broken and enemies themselves are very unforgiving and scary as hell, especially the robot women.

level design is good throughout the entirety of the game until you reach the "Many mission" and i say this because there's a point just before you fight the first boss where you're in a narrow place with gas lifting you up every two seconds all while being sandwiched in between the hardest enemies.

All in all if your a fan of this kind of game its a must buy regardless of its age! BTW the sound and soundtrack is a 10/10, could recommend it for this alone

Pros: good story, very immersive and scary, modern gameplay for an old game, sound and soundtrack is great, The Von Braun is big with a ton of things to explore, good character customization

Cons: Enemy spawns are broken at times, 90s hitboxes (kinda help you tbh), and the "many misson" is rage inducing

P.S. if you're a noob MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 100 NANITES AVAILABLE WHEN YOURE NEARING DECK 6 you'll thank me later

Great turn based RPG with a ton of character customization. Still haven't finished the game yet but have enough playtime to know the ins and outs. If you a noob like I was I'd 100% recommend playing with a friend that is experienced with games like this because there is a steep learning curve. I didnt know what the ♥♥♥♥ was going on till my friends taught me how to play lmaoo

Story: 9.8/10

DLCs: 9.5/10

Gameplay: 7.8/10

Side Quests: 9.2/10

Graphics: 10/10

PC Port: 9.0/10

Had more fun during my second playthru than my first and usually thats not the case for most games.

The Story: actually makes you feel immersed in the game, care about every important character, and makes you think twice about which dialogue choices you pick. It didnt take long for me to become attached to the lore of the world, characters, and story thus when the game was nearing a close i felt sad and even an empty pit in my stomach knowing that this would be Geralts last game.

The Gameplay: although its the weak point of the game I feel it gets the job done. during my second playthru i gained a better understanding on how to fight in the game and its really not a bad experience especially if you know how to upgrade your character to fit your unique play style. Understanding how to craft Oils, Bombs, Swords, and Armor make the game more enjoyable but its not needed to get through the game. The physics, gore, and slicing through enemies limbs is also another plus of the gameplay because it makes the combat have some meatiness to it.

The DLCs: Both DLCs are great just get the game of the year edition when its on sale

Side Quests: 95% of the side quests ive taken part of are good mini storys that are usually unique from one another, the other 5% is just your average fetch quest RPG stuff. Witcher contracts can have interesting twits but some are just your run of the mill contract to get some extra cash. treasure hunts are treasure hunts ;)

Graphics: For a game that came out in 2015 these graphics are legendary and i find myself looking and taking screenshots of a ton of scenery.

PC Port: I have poopy specs (AMD FX 8320 overclocked to 4.1GHz (the fx processor serves as a heater too lol), R9 380x, 12GB 1600 Ram) and this game runs at 35-42 fps on a mix of ultra and high settings at 1080p... the port is good

Verdict: If the Combat was better it would be close to a 10/10 but since its not imma give it a solid 9.2/10.

P.S. Those who say the game is bad simply because of the combat are stupid hipsters. Fallout 3 had ♥♥♥♥ combat and the game was critically acclaimed by fans... nuff said
