well this game is...the very definition of a mixed bag.

I wouldn't say the game is bad. But I really can't say it' *that* good. The spells system is, for a Magicka clone, pretty neat, unique in its own way and gives a roguelike spin on the formula. The graphics are as always with frostbyte absolutely gorgeous. Nearly every area will leave you breathless. The enemies are somewhat repetitive but they are put in different situations enough for this to not be a problem (the fighting has other problems). The characters are INCREDIBLY charming. Their banters, interactions, or if you're in solo, little monologues make them so much more than a list of spells and skills you can swap. I catch myself thinking "don't wanna be owl alone" throughout the day because of my favourite character. The developers must have known that, because each character can be assigned 4 distinct moods which changes their reactions to being brought back, to last chances, and their little dialogues when you try to communicate with your teammates.
And then...The rest.
I greatly enjoy the game and even then I must admit that it is frustrating more than challenging. Rather than offering you an interesting diversity in fights, the game mostly just throws more enemies at you at one time. And as time goes on, instead of having a proper difficulty curve with enemies that make you think and strategise in unique and various ways, the game has you fight 30 copies of 4 different enemies, which will have immunities to various elements and give other enemies the same immunity just to make the fight last longer. Good luck having enemies effectively invincible to 4 out of 5 base elements, times 20. It rapidly turns into a slodge to push through, even though I can tolerate it myself.
As others have mentioned it, you can start a game private, but if you resume it, it'll be public and anyone can join: you cannot change that, and Frozenbyte has no intention to fix this because ♥♥♥♥ you that's why.

I know this sounds like this is mostly bad and...well it wouldn't be too far off, but still, the game is fun when you have friends to ease off the frustration, and I enjoy unlocking stuff, so I'm not unhappy about it. That being said, I'd absolutely recommend to wait for a sale, because the game isn't worth more than 10€ imo. Me and my friend lucked out and got it at 5€, and I'd say it's probably the most reasonable price for it
