Constant connection problems, crashes and abysmal optimisation kills any enjoyment.

Spellbound Survivors manages to carve its own identity among a sea of Vampire Survivors-likes (is that what we call them now?) with the special powers that the player needs to fill up a bar to use by slaying more enemies and its artstyle. Characters can dash, each have different time-based ultimate abilities and can carry up to 4 weapons and accessories each. The ultimate abilities feel distinct enough, some are better for the bosses that come in at every 5 minutes, some are better for area clear. Weapon evolutions exist but they do not require specific accessories and it's a good design choice in a case where you can only equip 4 accessories at maximum. The start may feel a bit sluggish but once you figure out how special powers work, it will become a fun ride. My only complaints are that it needs some polish regarding the UI and some unlocks are game-time based, as in, they are unlocked when you pass a certain playtime threshold and there could be more interactive ways to unlock them. I can definitely recommend this game on sale

Simple, full of content and absolutely addictive. I am yet to see everything that the game has to offer in all these hours.

I recommend this game. But I'm not totally fond of it.
First of all, it's combat mechanics are satisfying. Don't expect the quality of Dark Souls but it does it's job really well.
You have 3 paths to master in combat. Melee, ranged and magic. It has freedom too, I made a melee character with berserk and drain life spells.
Skills are based on these three combat paths.
1)Strength, which includes melee damage, health and damage reduction
2)Skill, which includes ranged damage, attack speed and sneak+mercantile
3)Will, physical spells, damaging spells, surround spells and mana.
To level your skills up, you use experince. It has 4 categories,
a)Green, general experience which you can use to upgrade any of the three of them. Every monster drops an amount of green xp.
b)Red, strength experience.
c)Yellow, skill experience.
d)Blue, will experience.
You can use these red, yellow and blue xp only on their related path. For example, you can't use your will xp on any of your strength abilities. You can only use it on your spells.
A good system overall and makes sense.
Story is the weakpoint here.
There are holes in the story, almost like if they were cut out. Something happens but you don't know why, the game just thinks as if you know what's going on. With not so impressive twists and a completely irrelevant ending, story can be called lame.
Characters are not very memorable except for a couple of them.
You gain some renown from every quest, which really is noticable when you are walking in a town. Everyone knows you and the game gives that feeling of being a celebrity really well.
Marriage is possible, though not so complicated. You can buy a house too.
World is not very big and that may sometimes be boring but the locations the game puts you in are mostly well-thought. Northern Wastes have a really good winter atmosphere for example.
Being good and being bad really matters in the game. Your karma affects everything you do. The damage you do with certain spells, the drops, your interactions with NPCs and such.
You can't choose your appearence but there are different ways to customize your character like haircuts and tattoos.
Performance is good, I had no problems with framerate or optimization. I have a Pentium Dual Core, a 2GB RAM and an Intel G41 graphics card on my PC. Run it with no problems at all.
Overall, a good game with interesting mechanics. But story and writing isn't that good. Still, definitely worth a try.
6/10
