Ok lets start by saying this is no "GOD OF WAR",has the same sort of gameplay and even the same style of weapons and abilities,BUT and i say BUT thats where it stops (dont think that KRATOS swears as much as MARLOW).To be honest the idea of the mask bringing MARLOW back to life reminds me of the same thing that happened in the latest incarnation of the SPLATTER HOUSE franchise.
So why would you play this game if you have played those, well simple really even though the game hase'nt had as much money thrown at it-it is still a really solid game and deserves your time if you like this sort of game.
The graphics look nice, the voice overs are good (sure the main bad guy is voiced by LO PAN from big trouble in little china) and the music in game also does its job perfectly.
The game plays out like a B movie classic and thats a good thing, many a time you will hear a one liner come out of MARLOWS mouth and plenty of times you will laugh at the in game jokes.
The mask is the best character in game and between it and MARLOW they form a good partnership and come the end of the game its like you were watching a sort of twilight zone twisted version of LETHAL WEAPON.
I will say that this is another game with not much replay value,do everything in game and power up completely and you wont feel short changed (bar a few mistakes and tough challenges the whole amount of time i have garnered on this game was actually playing time).
I would reccomend this game and just hope that the "ITS NOT GOD OF WAR IS IT" doesnt put of to many people,as that ending just needs an explanation and a continuation,so come on KRATOS move over as MARLOW BRIGGS WANTS YOUR HEAD MAN.

Ok so yes i will admit why i bought this game first,i am a huge H.P.Lovecroft fan and allways have been (read all the stories he has written and found that i enjoy his works but THE SHADOW OVER INNSMOUTH and THE CALL OF CTHULUH and probablly me favorites) and thats what first intrigued me about this game.
MAGRUNNER is very similar in play style to PORTAL,whereas in portal you have the "APERTURE HAND HELD PORTAL DEVICE" (god thats a mouth full) in MAGRUNNER you have the MAG GLOVE which fires 2 coloured charges.1 is green and one is red (push and pull mechanics come into play here-1 attracts and 1 repels) and it plays in much the same way as the "APERTURE...........oh lets call it the portal gun (its easier and doesnt take as long to wright) does in both of the PORTAL games. The graphics in MAGRUNNER are good and the music and overall feeling of dread that something may be coming for you at any point is quite intense at some points during the game. The story is told with gusto and never lets up (i havent finished yet but i am enjoying the story so far and i love the LOVECROFTIAN-(is that even a word DUH)-overtones in trhe story),as what starts out ot be a sci fi story about energy comsumption and finding new power sources soon turns into a horror induced nightmare and you find out why you and the other MAGRUNNERS are there and your purpass in the greater story is revealed. The main character is called DAX WARD and this sounds a lot like a character Lovecroft created himself CHARLES DEXTER WARD (any relation to this character is not know at this point as i havent finished the game just yet),DAX will no doubt before the end of the game encounter more similarities i dont doubt and will come across more of the horrors that Lovecroft created on the way.
I like this game and it is good to see a developer investing in a Lovcraft based game as there is not a lot (if any) out there (or film,tv series or any other medium for that matter),i would also reccomend that if you want to play anything inspired by Lovecrofts work also search out the game CALL OF CTHULUH : DARK CORNERS OF THE EARTH (also available on steam) as that is one of the best survival horror first person games i have ever played (finished it on the X BOX and going to play through on steam as soon as time permits).
So in closing if you loved PORTAL you will more than likely enjoy this and if you didnt steer clear and probably try DARK CORNERS OF THE EARTH instead as that game really does grab you by the throat and doesnt let go.

Bought this game as i had a spare bit on funds in my steam wallet and didnt know what to buy so looked through the cheaper games and saw this and thought "OK i will give it a go it doesnt cost that much",and i am really glad that i did.
As soon as i had downloaded and started to play i thought i was watching a pixelated grind house flick on my pc,then the game started and the simplicity of the game was plain to see,go from one side of the screen to the other collecting items and shooting zombies as you go.Then i got to a point where i realised i had made a mistake and then started again, sooner or later the zombies get tougher (boss enemies and the like) and thats when you realise that upgrading your guns and having a certain amount of health packs is of dire neccessity. Now the graphics are ok,sounds and music repeat too much and there is no story to speak of (just get to that damn helicopter and escape),but this is another game that shows that gameplay matters more than all these things and that all a game needs to be sometimes is just FUN.Fancy graphics, music, voice overs, script none of that matters if the gameplay mechanics are no good or broken and the games no fun.
Well i think that this game has that one main element that lacks in even some big triple AAA titles in spades and for that i whole heartily reccommend this game to anyone who wants a good blast of fun.

Doorways is a really good game but i wouldent exactally call it survival horror more horror puzzle first person game.
Now i will say why i think this,i love survival horror games and this game just does not fit with me into that catagory, there are no weapons to pick up no enemies to fight and the items you do collect all come in handy but for solving puzzles (just like in resident evil i suppose) snd thats what drives the game.
The graphics really suit this game (and for an indie title are really good) and the creepy and earie sounds only help to make the whole experience that more unnereving. The story is really good and one that is very adult in nature and we dont see much of that lately (THE CAT LADY is another fine example of this also),i really dont know where the main character is my only guess is that he is some sort of dream walker and is in the killers minds that he is after, but whatever it is the story is engaging and really quite on the obscure side also. The 2 parts of the story that are here are both good and to be honest my only complaint is that they are rather short and when done you will only really want to go back to play through again to get achievements you havent got.Having said that what is on offer is entertaining and engrossing enough that any adult looking for a game that will engage them in a different way wont go wrong with this game, just dont expect it to last forever.
Lets hope that the next chapters get released soon and that we can and will find out what and who THOMAS FOSTER actually is,as to be honest he is one hell of an enigma.

Ok let's start by saying that i am a huge fan of anything to do with the walking dead and i have read all the graphic novel's and am all up to date with the TV show and a part of me was worried when this game was announced but after reading all the review's and hearing only good thing's i jumped in feet first.

The Walking Dead Game Season 1 Trailer - YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGhhf5wDBN8

The graphic's in game really do a good job of putting forward the fact that this was orriginally based on the graphic novel's and at some points looks just like it but full of colour and this adds the one thing i felt was missing from the graphic novels (controversial point to raise but for me i wanted to see more colour in the book's).
The sound and script in game is top notch and the voice actor's really do a good job of putting forward the emotion's that their on screen character's are feeling at certain point's in the game (the attic scene with the child and the ending scene with Lee Everett (voiced brilliantly by Dave Fennoy) i will not forget in a hurry).

Dave Fennoy Interview (Lee from Walking Dead) (@ Dragon ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT3wzm5fsa0

This is one of the finest and most well put together game's this reveiwer has ever played and is also one of the game's that i will most remember playing for some time to come, most games these day's are just throw away experience's and usually have no soul or any other quality that will have them remembered for longer than five second's.
The amount of emotion's you go through whilst playing this game range from joy to sheer gasps of horror and then moment's that pull at your heart like never seen in most other game's (especially the moment's involving the children in the game,i will never forget them). The team behind this game (Telltale) have released game's that play in the same way this does and i will get around to playing them eventually as if this is anything to go by both "THE WOLF AMONG US" and the "WALKING DEAD SEASON 2" will both be a joy to play, finger's crossed that season two will be just as entertaining and that the choice's that you made in season one will have reaching and decisive consequence's (whether for the good or for the bad).If anyone has'nt finished the game yet let's just say it will have one of those ending's that won't be easily forgotten.

(Even though the above is not from my play through this is exactally how my game ended as well)

Will you want to play this game,if you are a fan of the walking dead in any way what so ever then yes and if you are also wanting a well put together and utterly entertaining piece of entertainment then look no further, just be prepared for one hell of an emotional journey that will stay in you heart and your subconscious for a long time to come.

Ok lets just start by saying that i love "CASTLE CRASHER'S" and even though this is by the same developer (The Behemoth) its not much like that game at all.
Now when i say this i mean in a good way, even though castle crasher's is really good this is better and the sense of humour this game has is second to none.
Let's get down to the brass tacs of the game, the graphic's really do this game justice and at time's its like having a leading role in a cartoon show with the cut scene's being nothing short of briliant and they had me in stitches, rolling round on the floor in absolute agony (the last cut scene in game is the best and the song that goes with it is pure comedy gold-reminded me of something i would hear "MONTY PYTHON" sing).

SPOILER ALERT**IF YOU HAVENT GOT TO THE END YET AND DONT WANT TO SPOIL IT DONT WATCH THE FOLLOWING VIDEO**SPOILER ALERT

BattleBlock Theater - Ending with Final Song! - YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5EaBkeo_7E

The gameplay itself consists of taking on various level's (as you open up new part's of the prison---"SORRY THEATER") and whilst doing so trying to collect all the green gem's and also the ball's of wool (this game does have cat's in so naturally ball's of wool-trust me it goes along with how nutty this game is),now you dont need to collect all of them in the level to get past it,no you just need to find three of them and then the lock opens and the exit is clear. But that is part of the fun of playing the game as you try to find all the gem's and ball's of wool to get that A++ rating for that level.
As you progress through the game the challenge's on the level's get tougher and you end up having to pull of jump's and move's that have to be spot on for you to progress, now this doesnt matter on the normal level's but on the timed ones can cause you some absolute "SCREAM OUT" moments of pure frustration (honestly i didnt get like that-OH YES YOU DID-NO I DIDNT-YES YOU DID-OK I DID ALRIGHT),but this all add's to the charm of the game as you have that "one last go" moment which can last you for hours (trust me i KNOW).
The sound in game is one of the highlight's also, and the narrator is one of the funniest thing's i have ever heard in a game in a long time (dare i say i will remember him as much as the narrator from BASTION) and the thing's he say's (his constant "OH DEAR" and other comment's as you die are hillarious) and the song's he sing's will stay with you for quite some time.

BattleBlock Theater Development: Narration by Will Stamper ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FR1MXOb50c

Now the gem's you earn and the ball's of wool you find are used in game as currency for the thing's you will eventually find yourself buying.Gem's purchase head's and some of these are great and have had a lot of thought and some seem to be just after thought's,but trust me that "POKEMON" bug will grab you and you will find yourself wanting to "GOTTA GET THEM ALL" (see just like pokemon),the ball's of wool you trade to the cats (WELL THAT FIT'S DUH) for more weapon's and these all seem to play out slightly differently from the boomerang to the grenade they all work slightly differently than the last one did.
Having finished the solo version of the game (and the later level's get really challenging-especially the timed one's),i moved on to the multiplayer side of the game.
Now this seems to play out just like the solo game and that's what i thought until i realised that without the other person to back me up i would get no where (in some game's like this it doesnt really matter about working together but here it does).

BattleBlock Theater - 4 player coop -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHUntfXN4tc

You see in co-op the challenge's are actually aimed at there being more than one player and try to play it solo and you will die and fail straight away.I will be playing it more in co-op now i have finished the solo game and find that this actually does add longevity to what is allready (in this reviewers opinion) a top notch and well developed piece of entertainment.
Will you want to play this game, well answer the 2 following question's and you'll know.
1 - Do you like game's to have a wicked sense of humour and consist of laugh out moment's ??
2 - Are you prepared to loose hour's of your life as the bug grabs you and you must A++ that level no matter what ???
If you answer yes to both then buy this fantastic game straight away and if not buy it anyway and trust me you will never and i mean "NEVER" regret it.

Right first things first, yes this is a hidden object game and yes there are loads of them, but this ones actually really good.
The graphics in game are good and mostly of the static variety (like most of these games are) but sometimes this shifts to moving scenes which are handle'd with a real flair and the art work is top notch. The sound is really good in game and really helps set the "STEAM PUNK" astmosphere that this game goes for and the characters are all well writen and the script also gets top marks for real effort and is both entertaining and also interesting to watch and listen to as the story progresses and never gets boring or out stays its welcome right up until the game nears its inevitable conclusion.
The hidden object scenes are never to trick'y and the puzzles sometimes cause you to sit there and scratch your head (but not very often and only a little bit),but this doesnt matter as whats there is really enjoyable to play through and pushes you on to yet another puzzle or hidden object scene that you will enjoy (if you like these sort of games that is).
You play as Agent Evangeline Glass who is set on her mission to save Dr. Ink and stop a crafty mechanical genius who always seems to be one step ahead of you (but you know that eventually you will and must stop him-wouldent be much of a game if we didnt have to).You have to stop the earthquakes and rescue the Dr before all hell breaks lose and more cities fall (seems rather dramatic but that's the gist of what you have to do in the story-solving puzzles as you go).
As you play you will meet various other NPC's but the most interesting of these and the most fun is the mechanical crow Matthew,he comes into his own at times and without him you would both be stuck and at times lost in the world around you (he really does remind me of BUBO though from the old "CLASH OF THE TITANS" movie).
You see at certain points there are objects you just cant reach or places you just cant get to that Matthew can fly upto and either grab that item or help you solve that puzzle thats been getting on your nerves for the last 30 minutes AARRGGHHHHHH,and most of the time you will say "OF COURSE I NEEDED MATTHEW TO SOLVE THAT LAST BIT DUH" but thats all part of his charm as your companion.
All in all one of the better hidden object games its been my privalige to play and i hope that we get to see MATTEW again as that little crow really has taken a place in my subconscious and he refuses to leave "SHOO crow of with you"...........................see hes not listening".

Ok went into this game with lots of hope that it would be a very atmospheric horror game and to some degree it is,but and its a "BIG BUT" this game is very short as a matter of fact PAINFULLY SO.Now let me say this that the game does do a good job with atmosphere and i can see where the developers are going to take the story and it looks like it will be really good but only when all three acts are out and can be played one after the other as my total play time will tell you,1.5 hours is neither here nor there and is very short even for a seperate episode.
Now i get to the pricing and at £7.99 its way overpriced for the ammount of game (more like an interactive story to be honest) that you will get,so therefore at the moment is overpriced (in my opinion-no replay value as once you have seen it all thats it).
Ok lets gets to the brass tacs so to speak, the graphics are nice and look really good (your torch offering the only source of light down in the caves and cattacombs that the game is set in),the gameplay is very slow and methodic and to be honest i think i spent upwards of between 20-30 minutes walking places (the game has a very slow walk function, whether intended or not it actually bumps up the playtime).I wont spoil it to much for those that are going to play but there are some nerve changling scenes and these are of the chase variety (no guns or weapons-so it does share that in common with AMNESIA but little all else). There is no true freedom in game and at times you just feel like you are along for the ride. The sound in game is top notch with some of the noises actually getting to you (screams and other noises are all quite nerve shredding at times).
Interaction in world is quite simple and only occurs to advance the story and at times you will wonder where to go but a little trial and error soon sorts this out in time.
So on the one hand i would like to reccommend it but with hand on heart cant as whats there is good but really doesnt warrant such a high price tag for what is actually a shorter experience than most movies, sad as like i have said i can see where they want to go its just whether enough people will buy such a short game to help them get the following episodes out so that we can finish the story and see what actually does and is going on.

(JUST TO ADD-SINCE PRICE DROP)

The game has since dropped to nearly half price so it is now better value for money (but all the above still applies).
This is not a very good sign though as people have paid the higher asking price and it hasent even been out for more than 8 days (not a very good sign of either the product or the developers faith in it)
Lets hope that this doesent become the norm as to be honest this reveiwer will just wait for his games instead of forking out money for a game to just drop less than 9 days later.
(all games drop eventually but not this quickly and lets just hope that the next episodes remain free for the people who bought this game early and that it remains so for everyone else as well)

This is one game i picked up on a whim as i had enough in my wallet to buy it and thought "OH THIS LOOKS DIFFERENT I WILL GIVE IT A GO",and boy i am glad i did.
The graphics really do,do the game justice and the way they suit the name of the game "PAPER SORCERER" is uncanny. When you are walking round the different floors of the prison you have been incarcerated in the game looks really good and flows really smoothly. It does look at times (when in fights and stationary in the sanctuary) that the art work has been drawn on paper and then transferred into the game, with the artwork reminding me of the artwork found in the old D&D books i used to read and play through with my friends when we played D&D when i was a kid. This works really well and the music in game adds to the feeling that you are actually playing a D&D board game but in actual game form, the graphics effects for spells are all ok and each one looks different.
The characters you amass on your journey all look different and all have different play styles from the heavy classes which include the "MINOTAUR" who is good at heavy attacks and powerfull special attacks to the defense classes which include the "SHADOW" who has great defense magic and also spells that prevent status effects.
The music in game (what is there) does a good job like i have said of putting you in that world of sword and sorcerey and never does outstay its welcome (could have done with some more sound effects in game though).
The story is both entertaining and a joy to watch as it unfolds the further you progress through the tower and it is both a mysterious and wonderous journey to take as you progress from level to level. The further you get the more the enemies change and the more you have to look at your play style and change up the tactics you have been using as what worked on the floor below might not (and usually doesnt) work on the floor your on,this forces you to look at your team and make changes accordingly as you get further into the game.
This brings me to the difficulty level which at first can seem quite punishing, but believe me it isnt, the more you play the game the better you get (YEAH OF COURSE DUH) and the more you learn the little intricacies the game can throw at you. Many a time i have got to the gaurdian who stops your progress to the next level just to be beaten (sometimes by my own lack of in game time to be honest) and therefore have to load up again, but then when you do you learn what he/she does and when he/she does it and what they are vulnerable to and also when they summon companions to fight you and also when they are going to use spells (some of them use certain other spells to prepare for the spell that they usually crush you with "WHY YOU PAIN IN THE A...") and with this you learn and evetually you will "CRUSH THEM AND TAKE THEIR SOULS".
There are a few in game quests to do that you dont have to do to finish the game and my favorite is finding the "LOST SOULS",when you do find these you hand them in to the creepy old man who lives in the abandoned house (all by himself so run away kids if you know whats good for you) and he then opens up a level of the "REAPERS DUNGEON",these are worth doing and handing in as you get the oppertunity to explore a level of the reapers dungeon and this means you can find some really cool gear and other items that just cant be found in the main game.
Will you like this game, well yes if you like a good sword and sorcery romp and have the patience to play through what can be at some times quite a tough and challenging game then by all means "STEP FORWARD ADVENTURER" if that doesnt sound like your cup of tea then look elswhere as this wont be the game for you.

Ok so let's begin by saying i really liked the premise behind this game and thought i would give it a go,but i didnt expect a game where you press the right and left mouse button to be all that captivating or to take up a lot of my time.Well i was wrong on both of those point's as this game is both addictive and has taken up all the gaming time i had for the day.

One Finger Death Punch LAUNCH TRAILER - YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azizOlEV2Uk

Lets start with the graphic's,they are ok and serve their purpose and for this sort of a game they really do suit what it is trying to do,focus on the mouse tapping kicks and blows and not to focus on show boating effects (there are some nice touche's when you do a bone crunching move however).
The story well there isnt one (again this is a game that doesnt need one) and lastly the voice over's are all done really well and sound like they belong in an old Bruce Lee film.
When you start the game you get a brief introduction to gameplay with the first 3-4 level's and they show you the whole one button gameplay idea in a nutshell and how the enemies all have different health and attack pattern's up their sleeves and how to deal with this, and then it gets tougher from then on in,as the map opens up (and it is fairly large) new challenge's open and that's when the fun really begin's.
There are various level's and i will detail some here, first let's talk about "SURVIVAL MODE" this mode cant be failed as you just survive for as long as you can and get marked on how long you managed to last.
The "MOB LEVEL'S" have you taking on various enemies who can withstand any where from between 1 to 3 punch'es (thats as strong as the enemies are that i have come up against at time of writing the review).
The "TIMED LEVEL'S" have you having to defeat a certain amount of enemies before the timer runs down (usually in a fast fashion otherwise you will fail).
The "THUNDER LEVEL'S" have you taking on the enemy but you cant see them only the bars under their bodies which lets you know what enemy they are and how many hits it will take to defeat them and how they will behave whilst you fight them.
The "NUNCHUC AND LIGHTSABER LEVEL'S" play pretty much the same with you taking on enemies 1 after another who get more numurous and faster with you hacking/smacking them with your lightsaber/nunchucs.

One Finger Death Punch- Part 2- Lightsaber! - YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywaFoA63UJs

But my favorite levels are the "BOSS BATTLE'S" which have you facing one opponent in "MORTAL KOMBAT" (sorry couldent resist) and they usually are tougher than your normal enemies as they have all their skill's and are quite devious (but learn their attack pattern's and they go down just as easy as any enemy you will encounter),there are some other level's but these are the best out of the ones i have played.
Now let's get back to the main idea that this game is based on,you using just the 2 mouse button's-now in theory this shouldent help this game as combat in the game shouldent flow that well as what can 2 mouse buttons do when compared to the combination of buttons that give excellent moves in other game's (MORTAL KOMBAT comes to mind and STREET FIGHTER) but thats the whole idea of the game and it flow's and ebbs brilliantly with the gameplay and after a while you are more engrossed with trying to perfect the level and with what is going on,on the screen than in how many button's you are pressing and that's what makes the game fun.
The music/soundtrack in game is really good and set's the kung fu movie aspect of the game really well, and is really where this game excell's as without the soundtrack behind the fighting it just would'ent be the same game and to be honest would actually be a rather boring mouse tapping experience.

ONE FINGER DEATH PUNCH FULL PLAYLIST - YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPYQIQstOkY

So why do i like this game so much, simple really its the need to better my last score and acheive a platinum medal for all level's and do them perfect that kept me going for nearly 3 hours straight and also the fact that the game is just so much fun.
Anyway in closing if your looking for a game that will captivate you with its simplicity and eagerness to please look no further,if you are after an in depth fighting game and one to tax your thumb's look elswhere as this is one fighting game that isnt for you.
