What a delightful game! I regret to say that I let the Mostly Positive review rating on Steam put me off buying the game for some time but it really looked like a game I would enjoy. And so when it was on a deep discount for the summer sale I took the shot and wowowow what a great little arcadey golf game!

Someone else said it best: This is a precision platformer under the guise of a golf game. You won't find your dad's golf game here. This is an arcadey 2D turn-based platformer with procedurally generated levels and permadeath (unless you bind a "Force Game Shutdown" button and quit before the game saves your progress after you lose).

I'm happy to say that I didn't need the force quite option to win this game on my first attempt. The game was a bit challenging but it gives you so many fun little powerups to get you through the game. Perhaps I just had a really lucky first run but I never even came close to running out of my par meter. This surprised me the most because of all the negative reviews.

It took me 4.5 hours to play through one round though. So I can see how someone going in blind to this game could be very frustrated losing a hole and losing literal hours of progress. But again, just bind the "force quit" action to something or press Alt+F4 if you don't want to play that way.

But having already beaten the game once, I'm still hungry for more. The game felt like it was just getting started with all the different cool things you can do with the powerups you get from Ace Cards. Having beaten the game once, there feels way less stress on seeing all the content in the game and I can just enjoy messing around trying to get the coolest shortcuts.

This game is an absolute blast and I'm honestly ashamed I waited so long to play it. The pixel art is top tier. The characters are very fun and there's so much heart that was poured into this game. Go into it knowing what it is and you'll have a great time!

Flawless art direction. My 4yo liked watching but some parts were too stressful for him. Puzzle platforming is on the easier side but was entertaining enough.

Ok so... yes this game is good. But I don't know if I've ever been so divided on my opinion of a game. This game is both exactly what the devs intended it to be and at the same time somehow has no idea what it wants to be. Let me explain.

The art direction = phenomenal
The sound design/music = perfection
The theme/lore/story = amazing
The gameplay = ... it's complicated...

I actually think the gameplay is really quite good. The combat is snappy and taking care of the cult is very engaging and fun. The problem I had was mostly a pacing issue I think.

I liked each game mechanic in isolation. But being on a crusade and having to stress about what's happening to your cult in real time... well that stressed me out and made it hard for me to pick up the game again or go on crusades because I was worried the minute I left everything would fall to shambles. This was obviously an intentional design decision and works perfectly with the theme they're going for so... yes the game is exactly what it wanted to be. And I had a hard time finishing it as a result.

And I guess that's fine. Two things can be true. I don't think this game will go down as my favorite game of all time as a result but I still really enjoyed Cult of the Lamb and look forward to toying around with future updates. I don't think I will do a full playthrough again for quite a long time though so here's hoping future updates give me more objectives to continue in my current save file.

Ignore the haters. Or don't. The worst part of Overwatch is the toxic community and that could be a deal breaker for you. But the game is fun. And free. And not pay to win.
