I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting to be positive about this game, until I got to finally play it.
For someone who didn't play the original Beat Hazard before, I can easily say that it's really fun game.

Gameplay powered by YOUR music! EMBRACE THE SEIZURE!!

Beat Hazard 2 is a music-driven arcade shooter where you pilot a spaceship that fights ridiculous amount of space junk asteroids, other battleships and numerous intimidating flagships while listening to the beats of music pumping through your ears.

The game offers itself as a predecessor game with all DLCs in it. In a twist of enhanced visualization and with much more content to play with.

You get to choose your track locally or from hundreds of available radio stations, or you play music from your music streaming platform.
Game supports all of the common music files, so I don't think there will be an issue with playing Local tracks
If you wanna play the music that you play from Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube, SoundCloud (or any music streaming service in general), try out the "Open Mic!".
Be warned that the in-game sound will play on left ear, if you choose to do so.

Three basic and straightforward modes are present in this game:
  • Standard - Fight your way through the generated enemy assault until your desired track ends or the total length of the game time is set.
  • Survival - An Endless onslaught of Standard mode.
  • Boss Rush - A Survival mode that replaces your common enemies with a Boss spam.
You have the access to the huge amount of perks and abilities that you'll be able to use the more you play the game, which you can later on unlock by activating (through level-ups) and buying it (from cash earned while playing).
You get to choose from XP Multipliers, secondary powerup upgrades (EMP Virus, Micro Lasers to just name few) or to get more lives... or to activate even harder difficulties (Insane, Suicidal, Apocalyptic and Zen AND ZEN+).

With the addition to Zen Difficulty, you'll hardly get through any music without using Super Bombs power-ups or losing a life.
With the newest addition to Zen+ Difficulty, your chances of survival is almost impossible.
No amount of powerups will save you from that onslaught. Good luck with this one! I mean, really good luck! (Extra lives advisable for this difficulty)

You can also choose from handful of different ships to control. Some can deal damage from a single line of beams, some will have a all-around beam blast, and some pack serious firepower at expense of speed and size.
With each ship, you get to complete 4 Shadow Missions. Some will tell you to play desired track or artist. Some will encourage you to get required amount of points. Some will order you to take on difficulties with certain weapon conditions.
A great side-quest for when you want to see what your desired ship is capable of.
Also, there's a Workshop Support for creating your own ship or downloading community created ships.

If you have friends that want to be competitive with you, or you just simply want to compete with the world, the in-game leaderboards will tell you who contributed to the certain song and, if you let the game notify you, who has beaten your record in a track. Or you just want a couch coop fun, you can play on a Party mode and blast through the galaxy together.

And finally, let's uncover the the core game mechanic that's been quoted from beginning:
EPILEPSY WARNING! The game contains lots... and I mean LOTS... of flashing lights! Even if you're a person who doesn't suffer from photosensitive epilepsy, I advise you to be cautious when playing for an extended duration. Although you can set the light intensity from 50% up to 300%, it's just a warning that you shouldn't easily overlook.

Overall, Beat Hazard 2 is really fun time killer. It's for those times when you want to do something other than just listening to the beats! Really great content for streaming, when you think about it, too.

By the way, check Beat Hazard 3.
