cheaper than starting a space marine army in tenth edition!

This game is like the perfect version of a strategy game to me.

I don't have sit around for months on end for turns to go by and I don't have to stress constantly over which unit is doing what over where.

Never played an auto-battler before this and I gotta say, I'm glad this was my 1st one.

I personally love games where I get the choice to either play a quick 10-20 min session or go for hours on end with multiple games back-to-back. This game 100% ticks that box for me.

One of the few Rock-Paper-Scissors style games that I feel is actually fair - You're getting merced by a marksman? Drop some crawlers or wasps on his ass. Getting bum-rushed by fangs? Get some arclights with increased range, etc.

For now, my only complaint resides with the game's presentation/UI. It kinda looks/sounds tacky. That's it.

8.5/10 - Solid title with a fair asking price

+Excellent visuals with a genuinely unique artstyle
+Great core gameplay loop for both the new introductory Rush gamemode and the classic Clash gamemode
+Balancing feels pretty fair across all characters for the most part
+No ♥♥♥♥-ass microtransactions or DLC thank GOD
+Reasonable price (I was really expecting them to charge $40-60AUD for this tbh)

-No support for resolutions higher than 1920x1080 (i.e. ultrawide)
-Locked framerate to 60fps (while not the worst, doesn't feel justified in 2024)
-No ability to view latency or select the region you wish to queue into (I genuinely have no clue if OCE servers exist or not)
-When a player fails to join a lobby or DCs from the game early, everyone is disconnected (makes sense for ranked games, but it really doesn't for quickplay)
-No dedicated servers (from at least what I can tell, please correct me if I'm wrong)

I want to leave a mixed review as of now, because the game itself is great, but it's really being held back by these simple QoL problems. I truly want this game to succeed, but I feel if some of these issues aren't addressed soon, history will repeat itself once more. So for now, I'll leave a positive review so that more people may feel enticed to support the devs at abstraction to make this game really take off. However, if said issues aren't addressed to *some* degree within the next month, I probably wouldn't be able to recommend this anymore.

I don't like it when devs push a beta as a 'complete' product

I do like it when they fulfil their obligation to the consumer to complete said product

The game feels how it should have been at launch, though the only 2 things I still feel are missing would be increased player interactivity in the Mourningstar hub (i.e. ability to message other players and lobby up from there) and a Genestealer Cults expansion (which from what I hear, might already be on its way)

I cannot believe a enjoyable, functional and reasonably priced video game released in 2023 exists.

Extra icing on the cake that it happens to be based in the 40k universe

Games workshop has an inside man at my bank, I swear all of these warhammer related purchases aren't my fault

I really didn't willingly buy 7 different 2000pt armies, most of their boxed games and any other piece of digital warhammer content available

Honest.

- decent battlefield experience with some interesting new mechanics

- not as good as previous entries

- still fun in it's own right

- buy if it's on sale or discounted through a 3rd party vendor

I have this one on origin (as much as I wish I didn't) and I can confirm this is a good one.

Excellent campaign - Short and sweet
Emotional soundtrack
Gunplay feels tight, responsive and satisfying overall (despite using janky WW1 weapons)
Really makes you feel as expendable as you're supposed to be fighting in WW1

This is also a battlefield game, so we all know to respectfully give vehicle drivers as much ♥♥♥♥ as you can.
