Really good game! The art is gorgeous, the environments have their own personalities and there's a great variety. All the areas feel very distinct. Soundtrack is great. Story is quite good. The tone is really nice, it adds some drama but it doesn't take itself too seriously. I feel like the game loop is pretty nicely paced without overstaying it's welcome- with sprinkling in new mechanics to keep things interesting. I feel like the game could be slightly longer for a $20 price point- you can beat the game first time through getting the 100% completion in probably 12-15 hours. The other thing that I really wish was that the boss fights were harder. With the exception of the last two fights in the game the other fights can be sight read pretty easily and I personally beat the bosses on my second attempt, and I would say I'm pretty average at these kinds of games. Other than that, stellar game.

It's no secret that Supergiant is one of the best- if not the best- Indie game developer out there right now. All of their games are fantastic and I highly recommend you play all of them if you can. From the art to the gameplay they're all satisfying and different. The biggest thing that sets Supergiant and Bastion apart from other indie developers and their games is the storytelling. They have a great sense of exposition, pacing, creating unique characters and of course just generally coming up with original ideas.

What you'll find with Bastion is that it's a game that's meaning has transcended past it's inherent context and it serves as a kind of template that Supergiant has embedded as a part of their DNA, for lack of a better word. You can see the design elements in Bastion that evolved and were implemented into Transistor, Pyre and Hades. In a way, Bastion has become Supergiant's own kind of Bastion. The place that both protects and projects Supergiant's ideals for how and what games should and could be. This is just an extremely long winded way of me telling you that if you're a fan of Supergiant's other works of art- you should play this one out of principle.

My only minor gripe with the game is that it feels a little short. Within the context that this was the company's first game when they made Bastion it makes sense for budgeting reasons I assume. There's plenty of content with the game and it allows you to replay it multiple times and you can finish all the challenges and try different weapon combinations as well but if you're looking for a long 20 hour story that's not what you're going to get.

With all that said, play this game. It's Fantastic.
