The game is great. I don't understand why people are complaining about no loot drops - this isn't the instant gratification simulator like Diablo has become.
It's kind of nice having to fumble around sorting gear out, and I think it's on purpose to not flood the game straight away.
It does feel that the movement speed is a little slow, but you do get used to it.
I was originally put-off by the negative reviews, but this feels like a more polished, QoL extended PoE1.
I've never been a "souls" fan, learning attack patterns and timings has never been my strong suite, but I don't know how - it seems smooth enough to be able to pull of consistently.

Skills are a little lack-luster, with about half of them being unavailable for EA.
You can still make your own fun with them ofc, just a weird change I did not expect.
The addition of gold is nice, and also massive props for the whole Purchases in PoE1/PoE2 thing.

I'm sure I'll boil the blood of avid ARPG enjoyers, but this is what D3 would have been - if they kept with the pacing and game design of D2- albeit, more grim, somehow.
Also a side note, the Voice acting, it's top-notch.
The only thing I'd give a thumbs down on, is the Trial of sekhema . Absolutely tedious.
I have no issue with dodging hits (Melee character, and rarely take hits), but when you do in this content, it's reduces your "active time."
That, cobbled together with my connection to the server(AUS) being a bit choppy - makes it a complete nightmare to deal with. I don't know what the solution to it is - I just hope it gets another look over.

It was difficult to decide whether to recommend it or not.

It greatly overhauls everything from the original, everything feels very polished and runs flawlessly.

But, everywhere I look, there's just AI generated pictures. (They do admit to it & that's fine)
I'm not a "hater" of AI images, I think there's a time and a place to use them - especially when building games; when you can't afford artists.
But. Why not just revert to the original works from the first game?
I really, really hope, that the current images are used just to be placeholders until they get some work actually done.

The images are so, generic, so bland, they all look the same at first glance - I found that it does take away from the original immersion.
Artefacts, planet/ship upgrades, Tech trees images and Player portraits all just feel so out of place.
If the game goes on to sell well, I really hope they move on from AI generated images - maybe even just mix it up a bit, it just doesn't "look" right to me.
In the meantime, maybe offer the option to toggle between "Classic," and "Enhanced/Refreshed" icons?

But aside from that, the game is everything you'd want from a better sins 1 - I just personally found it to look a bit too abrasive.

It feels like nothing's changed. Same old great game, with much better graphics. This should set the bar for game refreshes.

Glorified tutorial.

I normally prefer to listen to Voice lines than read - but the AI Generated voices are so bad I have to mute them.
You can generate better and less soulless responses from a basic tier subscription from Elevenlabs.

Edit #3
I'm unsure if it was patch 1, or 2 (Since I hadn't tried to start the game during Patch 1's period) but the game has now let me get to the character creation stage. Once I get a chance to play it properly I'll come back to review. Good job on the patches, thank you.

I miss the days when you could buy a CD version of a game and you'd install it and see it work straight away. 40 minutes of watching it crash before it can even compile shaders is woeful. Installed, uninstalled, Verified files, change capability. Top of the range hardware. Baffling.

Holding the big fat no until it works.

*edit
Almost an hours worth of troubleshooting done now, still no dice.
with the 68 crash reports, all point to: "the thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access."

Which is a memory problem. Guarantee, that is not a client side issue. (this time).

*edit #2
I've managed to get to 103 shaders compiled, and it crashes. Some times it crashes before opening, sometimes it crashes when the loading symbol appears, and very rarely do I get to the "Compiling Shaders" part.

If you're adding me just to insult me because of my "opinion," on the game, because you assumed I'm politically charged, you assumed wrong. I don't even have an opinion on the game yet, because I can't even get the bloody thing to work. I just want to play the damn game.

Great so far, and seems to be a lot more to do than what I've done.
A little on the grind side, you can think of Vrising, each zone with different resources, then upgrading your followers to handle those areas, to automate those resources, but I enjoy the pace.
By far one of the best building systems, a toggle for grid snapping, or manual placement, allowing you to place through static objects is nice, so you can keep things neat.
The weapon system has been done before, much like Vrising, each weapon has it's own unique abilities, but they are actually fun to use.

The UI, for anyone not use to heavy UI systems, it's going to take some time getting use to, there is a lot of content hidden behind menu's, but it's not due to poor game design, if these menus were locked behind building/object interactions, maintaining your village would be a bit of a pain.

Currently, there seems to be hundreds of items in-game, and there's a great storage system for organising them too - which should be praised, these systems should be implemented in all games like this.

Obviously the game is Early access, there is graphical issues, such as stuttering (for example, flicking the mouse around while jumping, you can see a still frame, but it isn't that immersion breaking at all) and light rays misplaced.
Water reacts regardless of you being in water, above it, or on land next to it, again not game breaking, but worth point out that, during my current 8 hours play, these are the "worse" things I've picked out so far.
That being said, the map is nicely put together, you can tell it was made with care.

I did experience a lot of crashing on my second attempt at playing the game.
After restarting, verifying game files, finally removing my graphics drivers and reinstalling them, I manged to get the game running again.

All in all, for it's current state as EA and asking price, I think it offers a unique experience, alternate game play mechanics, graphically pleasing enough to consider being purchased at asking price.

I saw a lot of reviews vouching for the community being good.

I enter world, ask what the "closest" class would be to a battle mage.

Now, if the definition of a good community is one were you have loads of replies, then yes, good community.
If however, you mean to include into that, one that takes a second to read rather than drag you, then this isn't the game.
There's 2 MMO's on my ♥♥♥♥ list, and this is the newest on that list. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ - if you came to the game to find something new to do for yourself, just, don't.

P.S, if you're one of said "good community" members, Neverwinter is based on D&D, don't @ me because I asked if there was such a class.

It sounds so dumb now, being almost 30 reflecting on the old days. Getting computers from the dump and hoping to find a hard drive big enough to hold this game and Nox at the same time.
I remember vividly the creamy coloured CRT and speakers that would zap me every time I needed to adjust them.
The smell of the old boards, and the hums of hard drives.
At least the blue screens back then were as frequent as today.
This game is exactly the reason why I decided to get into programming.
I only pray that the RTS I am making is at least half as good as this.
RIP Westwood.

Co-op when

No seriously, Advertising this game as Co-op "coming," was the theme painted Trojan horse you used to drive sales. Then you spend what, a year and a half blaming your game engine for no Co-op?
Good game, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥ execution.

I remember the last time I purchased a physical collectors edition of a game; Fallout 4.
Lined up for it and all, at the midnight release.

I was hoping to relive some of the memories of old, instead, I found myself quickly drifting out of interest.
Like the opening scene in Morrowind would say, "wake up."
Take the L on this and prove that you deserve to remain at the top of the genre.
but I swear to god, if we get 10 new versions of this same game with nothing more than mods..
