The dvorak keyboard layout is way more efficient than qwerty, so why haven't we switched? It's because the qwerty layout is already so integrated into everything. Almost every device and software would have to change in some way to accommodate the new layout. We can let the ones who actually need the better layout use it for themselves, just like how the U.S. Government and Military use the metric system.
