I've played every single game in series and it's the only one i hate that much (well maybe except nfs: most wanted PSP port).
You can't pause a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game! Some moron thought, that it would be a great idea to make it online only even when you want to play singleplayer mode.
Also game is locked to 30fps only and you can't really change it without breaking game physics( which are broken in core anyways).
Not to mention that if you suddenly lose internet connection you gonna have to start race all over again.
Not recommended.

"Driving too fast can cause game assets to not load and softlock the game"

That's beacuse of the Frostbite engine itself. This engine was designed for first person shooters in mind, not racing games, so it glitches out at very high speeds.

In Need for Speed Heat, every single maxed out car has a speed cap at around 380 kilometers per hour to prevent Frostbite from glitching out.

- Driving too fast can cause game assets to not load and softlock the game.
- Engine sounds will be corrupted or non-existent.
- Going offroad can result in massive stuttering and clipping.
- If the frame rate is below the specified threshold (either because of FPS drops due underperforming hardware or setting the cap above refresh rate), the game will slow down and cause camera and physics issues."

"Increasing framerate by any amount is not recommended due to making the game problematic to play in the following ways:

- Higher rates can cause impossibility to complete some of events; the event will be abandoned while the player is between checkpoints. This is due to the game using a timer to determine if the player left the event, prompting them if they have less than 20 seconds before the event automatically cancels itself; normally this would only be a problem when the player takes too long to get to each checkpoint. However, increasing the frame rate also speeds up this timer, giving the player a very short amount of time to finish the event.
- The game will massively reduce the player's vehicle's acceleration regardless of its model, but if it's too fast, like the upgraded high-end cars, the game will also limit its top speed to far lower values while the AI's top speed and acceleration won't be affected; making the game difficult.

You can make it 60fps easily with origin launch settings. It only affects 2-3 races in the whole game, so it's not really game breaking. Just replay those at 30fps and you're good to go.
