In short this game is absolutely worth your money and your time.
I highly recommend going in blind. There are no major spoilers in this review, but you should experience all of this for yourself. 9.5/10

Jumping straight in:

Resident Evil Village is the direct sequel to 2017's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and follows Ethan Winters in search of his daughter.

The presentation is stellar. Lighting and texture work are great to gawk at even at lower settings.
Game looks gorgeous and runs pretty smoothly on medium with my 1070.
(I had a couple some pretty bad frame drops during some of the more elaborate weather effects, but those are few and far in between)
Sound design is amazing from the growls of the enemies to the sound of the gunshots and subsequent impacts on their heads. The main cast and side characters are all well acted. Ethan's dialogue can be a bit cheesy at some point, but by the end he's become one of my favorite protagonists in this series.

Gameplay is RE7 turned up to 11 and feels both tense and satisfying. There's more weapon variety than in RE7 and the all feel great to use. With great guns, comes challenging foes to use them on. Thankfully Village delivers in that. Just when you think you're getting the hang of it, the game throws a new enemy at you. I played on Hardcore, early on enemies do feel a bit bullet spongy, but it as you level up, it becomes a bit more well balanced.

The bosses are well themed, well designed (not frustrating or an absolute joke) and really help to serve the story and atmosphere. Each boss has its own area within the village and they and not a single one of them that felt out of place.
It really makes you want to explore the whole village and seek out some of the many treasures that feel grounded within the places that they are found.

You honestly have go hunting for these treasures because the late game weapons and upgrades are incredibly expensive and if you aren't careful you can end up spending all your money on early game gear only to get better versions of the weapon you already upgraded a couple of hours later.

My only gripe was the lack of a "point of no return" notification. I wont spoil it here because it is available online at your own risk but if you miss anything there is a new game plus mode and plenty of unlockables, including a 4th difficulty mode to justify a second or third run.

Throw in the time attacked based Mercenary mode and you've got yourself a game that's going to keep you entertained for a good amount of time.

On a final note, a lot of people have made comparisons saying this is basically RE7 + RE4 and that's very evident in its setting and mechanics. But there's some serious Silent Hill Influences with some of the more psychological aspects and atmosphere of the story. Not to mention the basic plot being about a father going to some weird town to rescue his daughter from some cult before a rebirth ceremony

I'm excited for the future. This feels like a return to classic survival horror, before the days of boulder punching and elaborate matrix style fight scenes. This game feels just as fresh as RE7 did on release. If you didn't enjoy RE7 because you felt a lack of combat and slower pace, pick this one up. It may surprise you.

+ Best combat of the series
+ Story is better than 2 and 4
+ clear and defined play styles for each character (Nero is feels methodical, Dante is all out balls to the wall crazy and V is high risk high reward)
+ Graphics look amazing even on the lowest settings
+ Nico

- some framerate drops, potentially a denuvo issue.
- story isn't as good as 3
- would have loved more Dante missions. It feels like since DMC 4, capcom be like "No one likes Dante, so here's more Nero and a reboot"

Still, Loved it. Going back for more.
Especially with Bloody Palace on the way.
Highly recommended

TL,DR - 11/10 too much dead weight.

So unlike most sheep, I dont find the need to buy call of duty games every year. I also dont believe in leaving one sentence reviews without any feedback expecially when the point of the beta is to alert devs to issues that you are having.

So with that in mind I had a pleasent time with this. I have not faced the optimization issues that are present in others.

i5 4460
Gtx 1070

I did have an issue with my dual monitor set up where the game only would shift to my second monitor in fullscreen/ borderless mode. the option for changing monitors seems to be locked and I dont know whats up with that.

Gameplay is fun, but scorestreaks are a bit harder to get to now i feel. Maybe im just bad, but I feel like the 3 kills for the Recon plane would be ok.

I also like the scripted events that take place at the beginning of the round in some maps.

I remember spending countless hours in the internet cafe playing L4D with friends when it first came out. Years later I still feel the rush of racing to the safehouse and leaving my friendly firing friend behind to die.

Sorry bud, the witch demands a sacrifice.

If Dark Souls were a top down shooter. This would be it. Unforgiving, relentless but ultimately fair.
