As a Dungeon Master and roleplayer with three decades of experience, I am genuinely excited with Baldur's Gate 3. It is a monumental achievement and it brilliantly captures the essence of classic rogue-likes such as Nethack and SSI games, along with the Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale series.

From the very beginning, "Baldur's Gate 3" mesmerized me with its depiction of FR. The freedom of action this game offers is unparalleled so far. Every choice, every decision feels impactful, and the range of options available for tackling any situation is so wide. Dialogue options, combat maneuvers, or innovative use of the environment (exploding barrel stacking to cliff / trap pushing) it encourages and awards creative problem-solving.

The game is perhaps predictable for me, with my strangely deep roleplaying and scenario writing experience, but I am guessing it is a bit unpredictable and challengingfor most of its players. It revived the thrilling sense of adventure and discovery for me with the games of old I played. I would not say no to more loot though.

The game's narrative is a masterpiece, weaves (not The Weave) complex characters and rich lore into a compelling tapestry that kept me engaged. The voice acting is top-notch, and it would be a real shame if the voice actors won't get awards & recognition for their work here. They breathe life into each character.

Of course, I would have loved seeing something like this for all the D&D campaign worlds, from Krynn to Kara-Tur, to Athas, (sigh) Ravenloft...

As a seasoned roleplayer, I appreciate how BG3 respected its roots while boldly innovating. It is a really fresh scent among other games for me. I have played it on my PC and PS, admittedly more on my PS as sadly my pc is aimed at work rather than games, but both were amazing experiences for me.

Now, if you excuse me, I will restart a character again. I have an Astarion to backstab.
