This is a hard game to want to pick up and play regularly. I ended up doing my entire playing over the course of a week that I had nothing going on, which (to me) is really the only way to play it. Pathologic 2 is too brutal to want to play in short bursts, especially after work or something like that. There's a lot of added frustration if you're not frequent with saving, and you might end up losing loads of progress from simple mistakes.

Going in, I didn't much care for Pathologic 2. The game relies on a lot of theatre elements and dialogue, which grate on you early on if you're not particularly fond of that kind of crap. If you don't care for the "theatre," the game will beat you down with the "Imago" intended difficulty until you're desperate for some kind of understanding, and you'll end up picking apart people's dialogue desperately for hints and understanding of the world of pathologic 2. Some dialogue chains/quests can be carelessly thrown away, despite giving you items and knowledge that is truly essential. The game is as much about managing your time, safety, and hunger in equal measure. And that's not even factoring in your personal desire to save as many or as few people as possible.

There were times in this game where I sold everything I had; clothes, shoes, surgical implements, morphine, the like just for enough food to make it another day or two. Pathologic 2 is the raw desperation when you're selling bullets from your revolver just to make ends meet. It feels desperate, and the strange, angry characters and wonderfully weird setting just amplify how beautiful everything in Pathologic 2 is. By the end, the game felt like a religious experience for me. It's quite something.

It is however, brutal. The game is a trip if you're going in blind, and you're going to make mistakes that get quite a few people killed, in addition to yourself. It is not a pleasant experience getting through Pathologic 2, but I found it to be incredibly unique and rewarding, if a little pretentious.

I am not recommending this to anybody trying to have "a fun time." It is not.
