Pretty good soulslike. The combat is what will make or break it for you, it does a good job of giving you a good combination of offensive and defensive tools with some fun new options gained from each weapons skill tree. The side missions can be a bit repetitive, and they don't really feel optional as if you skip them you will be significantly underleveled. The main boss fights are really good with a fun back and forth of blocking and dodging while sneaking in hits getting a stagger and then going on the offense. Everything else about the game is pretty good and I don't have too much to say about it.

If you liked World you will likely enjoy this at some point. It is currently low on content, but all of the recent MH entries have suffered from this on release. It is currently poorly optimized, but if you have a graphics card with frame gen then it will likely run at least at a tolerable frame rate. In short it has the same rough edges that other recent entries in this series have had.

Where it's better than world is in monster variety (world and generic flying wyverns lmao), and weapon balance. The weapon balance still isn't "good", but it is better than world even after worlds DLC. The other team (the ones behind Rise) has a much better grasp on how to make all of the weapons fun and satisfying while actually being comparable in terms of strength. A number of skills don't seem to be working properly, and yet the community responses say they are (Flayer being the best example). On a "meta" level the game is a bit of a mess.

So why do I recommend this? Well it's significantly better than the game a significant part of the fanbase for this series vehemently defends. It looks nice (on high end hardware), uses the strong core gameplay loop of the series, and is a solid entry for most of the weapons core gameplay. At the end of the day it still is better than almost every western slop game released in the past few years.

As said at the start if you like World you will likely like this game at some point.

Dogs.h1t. New enemy design, level design, and music are all god awful which completely defeats the point of why you would play doom eternal. Whoever made this should be publicly executed.

Playing on nightmare difficulty made this a pretty bad experience.

Conceptually it's very unique, but the uniqueness of it's gameplay and story is held back by a lot of unfun game design. The game presents itself as being about jumping between characters and while some missions are capable of forcing the player to actually swap characters it often times just doesn't feel satisfying. Missions contain one to a mix of three types of gameplay; walk into arena's that close off and you fight enemies until you can progress again, chasing an enemy that moves significantly faster than you resulting in you losing it and then tracking it down to chase it some more, and awkwardly sneaking around enemies for brief stealth sections. None of these are overly gripping so the game starts to feel samey very quickly. The story is largely centered around one of the characters you posses trying to help, to then becoming obsessed with killing slitterheads, to finally going insane. The other characters are mostly inconsequential except one other that is effectively the only person who does anything about the aforementioned character.

The gameplay is solid conceptually, but absolutely falls apart on nightmare difficulty. Each of the playable characters has their own set of unique skills. The problem is a vast majority of these skills are god awful in combat. Whether it be them being too slow, doing poor damage, or just being an outright bad decision to use. The few skills that are actually good are all obscenely broken. The combat is centered around locking on and then flicking the right stick in the direction shown with a blue indicator on screen which eventually builds up to a brief period of time where the enemies and their attacks are all slowed down significantly. The problem here comes from only some characters getting passives that allow them to fully take advantage of and interact with this system. The end result is you sit there holding down the left trigger flicking the right stick in the indicated directions and hoping that the system actually works, because good god is it inconsistent. While early on every enemy consists of mostly deflect able attacks and the occasional one you will have to dodge out of the way of in the late game a slitterhead that stands upright with a different moveset that largely consists of extremely annoying non deflect able ranged attacks shows up and becomes a regularly used boss. This boss feels really out of place with the rest of the game and is agony to fight making the enemy spam late game only more annoying. If you do decide to play this playing it on nightmare only amounts to suffering as single mistakes in this awkward system usually result in being one shot.

The presentation overall really shows how low budget the production of this game was and there are much more enjoyable experiences available that cost less and were made for less. The only thing that compelled me to see this through was grim curiosity. Play it for it's uniqueness on a lower difficulty if you decide you want to experience this is my recommendation. The challenge is not rewarding or satisfying especially compared to other action games.

A solid foundation with great visuals and solid core gameplay, but a number of current small issues in the way.

A lot of the burning issues have been already pointed out by others so instead here some issues I haven't seen mentioned.
- The wolf boss has an attack that I have no clue what the answer is supposed to be. It's the attack where it leaps forward and slams the ground putting a small circle under the player. I've tried everything parrying doesn't work, dodging is inconsistent at best, jumping doesn't work, and jump dodging doesn't work.
- I can understand unlocking characters being part of progression, but being able to actually pick the first character you want to play would feel a lot better. Their designs are all visually really cool and having them locked behind a pretty challenging first boss is a bit discouraging.
- Out of the available weapons the daggers feel very weak they do so little damage, don't build any statuses, have low range, and the payoff is fast attack speed. It doesn't feel worth it.
- Is there no way to reset the map other than dying enough times to run out of resets? I haven't found any other way to get golden rations which are needed for upgrades.

Despite everything I've had fun with it so far, and see a lot of potential in this game.

Possibly the worst game I have ever played. Godfall is barren of anything that could possibly illicit joy. A truly awful unrelentingly miserable experience.

Let's start with the gameplay. In short it's awful. In depth it takes every idea it has from the recent God of War games (a shield for blocking and parrying, a short step dodge that when double tapped becomes a roll, generic light and heavy attack with minimal combo routing, powerful abilities on short cooldowns). The system used in those new God of War games was already misguided and clumsy especially with enemies surrounding the player and the indicator for an attack coming from behind being imprecise, but Godfall takes it steps further into being awful with it's unique yet horrible idea to have attacks cause the player to stumble and fall on their back. This will result in the player dealing with a brief animation if stumbled from ground slamming shockwave type attacks or agonizingly slowly standing back up if knocked on their back. The end result combat devolves into trying to interact with enemies as little as possible on higher difficulties taking brief moments to take the occasional single attack and use the invincible attacks that are on cooldown. Truly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful.

The story is agonizing and refuses to even provide the courtesy of being skipable. You must watch as each generic npc boredly mumbles out their lines in the hub. Every second wasted on it is agonizing.

The game runs fine for what it is. The artstyle is ♥♥♥♥ ugly though a cobbled together mess of fantasy armor designs with glowing neon components, and an eye assault of particle effects making the sloppy combat completely unreadable.

Your time and money would be better spent watching paint dry.

Put in a raid/world boss like the slime diva but harder and intended to fight as a group and the game is perfect for now.

A really well executed soulslike that brings enough new to the formula while only suffering minor stumbles.

This game has a surprisingly strong grasp on what makes a soulslike so enjoyable to play. The strong mix of defensive and offensive mechanics, the level design that encourages and rewards exploration, and the solid variety of enemy design to keep the simple yet effective combat engaging all mix really well to make this game stand apart from other weaker entries into the genre. The unique setting of being underwater and playing as a hermit crab feed really well back into the gameplay mechanics rather than just feeling like a cheap gimmick. The writing is solid and while left a little to be desired as far as closure kept me engaged enough to actually read the portions that weren't voice acted. My only real complaint lies in my subjective opinion that the game is too easy which really doesnt feel fair as this being my favorite genre of games has led me to developing a significant understanding of them. That said no boss took me even into the double digits of attempts and most of the late game bosses I beat in a single try.

Overall a great game that is worth your time and money. 8/10
