this feels like a worthy successor to FFT. some things will be missed, like delayed spellcasting. the result is still a joy to behold, though. so many classes, so many combinations. just one more battle.

I wanted to wait until I'd played a decent amount to say deadfire is better than poe1.

deadfire is better than poe1. but it might also be the real spiritual successor to baldur's gate.

the difference is the feeling I get wandering around the open map, encountering possibilities and victories and awful, bloody dead-ends. the quality of the writing, the modeled depth of the characters, the expressive voice acting. the sharpness of the systems, the intricacies of combat. the lovingly detailed scenes.

these are what remind me of baldur's gate. this is what poe2 seeks to deliver and does so in spades.

a game that uplifts and progresses the metroidvania genre. a flawless experience that will delight and punish new players and veterans alike. beautiful atmosphere and music back up intense combat and joyous exploration. a wonder of a game.

diablo, but more open-ended, fun, and free.

beamdog did a great job with this. it feels like a natural extension of the events of BG1, albeit a little more railroaded. still lots of content, interesting choices to make, good combat and quest design, a worthy entry.

fantastic oldschool dungeon crawler. interesting quests, lots of character building, lots of exploration, lots of deaths... very fun and deep.

this game melts hours of my life. there's so much to do and see, especially now that I've reached the largest city I've yet found. eight hours in (all within the last two days, I should add), and I've barely scratched the surface of the intricacies of combat, gear combinations, spell loadouts (of different TYPES even; grimoires, chants, etc), crafting, building my stronghold, getting to know my party and the world around me... it's overwhelming in the best way. if you loved baldur's gate, buy this game. if you never played baldur's gate... buy this game.

spiderweb always delivers. clever design, well-written story, satisfying rpg'ing.
