This game has some phenomenal design and innovation; collecting the pages is generally great fun, and a lot of the secrets within are really cool. I got a GREAT burst of excitement when I figured out the Holy Cross mechanic.

However, too much of the puzzle solving (especially to unlock the true ending) is needlessly convoluted; you literally would have to print out pages of the pivotal instruction page to write on physically to complete the puzzle on your own. Like, the number of button presses to unlock the final path is ABSURD.
Additionally, the combat in this game, to me, feels very bad. I feel like other people will find less frustration in it (the timing in the parry system feels especially bad to me), but the fact that a key accessibility option is removing the damage fail state makes me think that I'm not alone here.
Possibly worst of all for my experience was the constant fear that I was missing something; puzzle games like this should reward exploration but it became a paranoid feeling of whether I was missing some hidden passage (especially with the fixed camera angles obscuring a good portion of every screen), and in one case (for the grappling hook item) I did indeed miss a tiny opening passage in a corner that had me re-exploring every other portion of the map, at a loss for what to do next.

It's really kind of a shame, because this is a game that has so many creative ideas that wouldn't carry the same joy of discovery when you finally figure them out if they were simply reproduced in another game, and they're forever used on a game with some punishingly tedious puzzle designs and frankly a storyline that felt derivative of Hollow Knight.

Fun if you have a group; trying to connect to an ongoing party more often than not fails to connect, and you can wait forever for other people to join your party.

A+ soundtrack on a B/B+ game.
I love so many of the core concepts, but so many of the cosmic mechanics are just too frustrating, and detracted from my enjoyment. Everything works well thematically, but having any number of little things risk putting you back at the very start of the game and having to backtrack had me looking up online guides just to make sure I wasn't wasting precious time.
The game also revealed to me a number of phobias I never realized I had, so I'm glad that I now know to be terrified of getting sucked up into the sky and into the void of space.

It's fun, but there's high risk (especially in the end game Kaycee Mod runs) where you have literally no path to victory, and you can waste a over twenty minutes on a run due to frustrating RNG.
I also found a lot less intrigue in the story behind the story, and the deep layer content feels kind of pretentious, but the core gameplay is worth it.

Souls games aren't for me, and I let myself be swayed by a lot of very positive reviews like this would be different, but man, if you don't like what you get with Demon's/Dark Souls, I don't think your experience in this game will be much different. If you do, I'm sure it's great.

It comes very close to scratching that Remnant looter/shooter itch, but so much of it is simultaneously designed for group play while also having quite possibly the worst netcode/online server support I've ever seen in a game. Almost every build tutorial on YouTube will reference this obliquely, as certain mods based around killing blows frequently won't work when you're not the party host.

The button mashing is VERY satisfying.
