Vanilla game is not optimized for multiplayer and keeps lagging hard after 1940, so the community does perfomance and balance mods. new DLCs are often gamebraking and they only care for singleplayer. But there are many active communitys out there, which keep the competetiv/Mods/ahistorical multiplayer alive. These coommunities often use their own or other Multiplayers mods.
