Let my preface this review with the fact I do understand this is a pre early access demo and its a small team of 5 people so i dont expect it to be perfect. this is one of the times i wish steam had a maybe button for recommending. Summary: I think the game has solid bones but definitely needs improvements, ship to ship combat is fairly good and definitely challenging on the harder difficulties, but off ship combat is very lacking. depending on what price it drops at i think its a worthy pickup if you have friends. I think around 20$ in its current state would be fair price.

The ship movement is rough, it just feels off, very clunky feeling at times especially if you arent flying straight, but when you are going forward it is very smooth and responsive. If youve played star citizen its like a simplified but more clunky version of its ship combat. There needs to be more to do on the ship, at least the current one available in the demo there is 1 pilot seat and 1 gunner seat, your other 2 friends are stuck kinda waiting for something to happen. Walking on the exterior of the ship when youre moving particularly in combat made me almost feel motion sick like vr,and can be extremely disorienting but if youre taking damage you have to go outside to repair the shields or replace a destroyed gun or even get materials to build the stuff to repair your ship. The radiation leak is either bugged or badly designed, there were times when i had the loose rod in my hand floating off the ship but it wouldnt allow me to drop it because i was floating off the ship, and if you try to drop on the edge of the exterior ramp it just sticks to the ship. So mid combat if you need to get rid of the radiation you have to basically sacrifice yourself to get rid it of it, and re spawning does cause your ship core to take damage. add a throw mechanic or a jettison pod or something. on the harder missions it does get very challenging and intense, it was very fun with my friends actually struggling to keep everything operational, at least with this starter ship which is the only one you can play in the demo. Personally i prefer a game that is very challenging.

The off ship combat is there, nothing really remarkable other than being able to grapple to enemy ships that part was pretty fun, the guns lack any sort of weight or feel to them, there isnt much recoil and honestly if you have the sniper which one shots all but the biggest enemies theres no reason to use anything else. The fps combat difficulty needs to be brought up too, even on the 3/5 difficulty setting it wasnt hard at all with 3 people. The walkers take about the same amount of damage to kill with the pistol as the default craftable smg. The off ship missions are generic and i only ran into 2 different types, either find this item and put it in your ship or in a container, and hack a terminal and defend against waves of enemies. Loot does not persist past your current run, i dont know if they plan on changing that or not but i certainly hope they do. Loot meaning almost nothing doesnt entice you to do anything or make you want to keep playing. Also dying off ship is a pain in the ass to deal with, maybe add a way to pull a downed teammate thats floating with your grapple hook or something.

New update is fantastic, game is so much better compared to a year ago, i can actually keep a stable 60+ fps now. Still some issues with the AI tanking rounds sometimes, as long as they keep pumping content this game has serious potential

best fps to come out recently, has its problems for sure, navigating the menu is garbage, the monetization isnt great but also not terrible, they give a ton of good looking skins for free, and the grind to unlock agents is a bit much. Core mechanics though are fire, gunplay is nice, the cards are fun and swap up how you play.

JUST MAKE THE GAME FREE

I think the core gameplay is solid, its fun and fluid. Visually the game looks very good, animations and world design are very cool. Classes seem well made and theres unlockable ones other than the starting 3. Has its bugs for sure, nothing really game breaking other than getting disconnected because it puts you back in queue. The monetization of the game is really bad, 20$ for just a player model? Very high priced especially for a non f2p game. And of course it has a battle pass, though the first one is free with the base edition and you get a couple more with the other editions. The most expensive one comes with a permanent xp boost which is a little ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ considering its 130 dollars.
