mechanically, everything that pokemon wishes it was.

Moonscars is not a metroidvania. It is definitively not one. It is a 2D Soulslike, minus the stamina bar. Moonscars does not have the classic "power up needed to progress", instead opting for keys and shortcuts via elevators and gates, similar to Dark Souls.

The controls in Moonscars are just jank enough to get in your way, but not not jank enought to notice until you absolutely need to. When pressing a direction after talking to someone, you don't move in that direction until you press it again. When dashing twice in a row via the upgrade, the time between dashes is inconsistent, leading to many a death to a boss over not be able to dash when you're *abosolutely sure* you should have been able to.

I don't recommend this game. Needs more polish.

good

a quality metroidvania. only two flaws:

- certain unlockables needed to progress the game can be accidentally missed by the player if the player takes an alternate route. this can be remedied by adding a marker when the player first enters a room with such unlockable.
- no fast travel system until . if you missed something, be prepared to walk. it's a small map though compared to most metroidvanias, so you'll be fine

First song captured my heart, I cannot wait for the full release of this.

(offset should be the first thing set btw)

it made me cry. no other game made me cry, until this one. play it.
