Bought this game only for the reason of being able to play with a friend. We played Dark Souls 1 together had a little trouble connecting but got it working in the end. We have had nothing but issues with us trying to connect on Dark Souls 2. Very disappointed with the game. We have contacted Bandai Namco multiple times but still no real solutions. Friend was able to summon me but I could never see his sign. Seems to only work one way but we can both be summoned and invaded by others. So annoying and frustrating. We have tried all troubleshooting suggestions out there. Now my friend is having trouble seeing my summon sign. Very crap multiplayer connection set up. I would not recommend buying this game if you want to play with friends.

Update: Friend created a new steam account and shared the game with that account. He made a new character and now we can both summon each other. Our theory is some how his original account got banned that's why he could summon me but I couldn't summon him. Although Bandai Namco denied his account was banned and said that if there was a soft-ban it would lift after a few hours of playing. Bandai Nameco Support was no help and didn't do anything to resolve the issue. If you are experiencing the same issue outlined above and you have followed the same steps I wrote in the comments below, then create a new account and share the game if you really want to play co-op. I've only not recommended this game because of all the trouble and lack of support that Bandai Namco gave us. However, now that we got it working ourselves we are happy and having fun.

The multiplayer mod is fun for a few minutes or couple of hours if that's possible but it quickly gets boring and repetitive. I wish the actual game was multiplayer.
